Brett Ritchie never wore 18 with the Flames. Dunno where that list got that from.

I also like Carpenter's faceoff percentage, super important for the 4th line. Sucks to lose Richardson with the Nucks seemingly picking him up out of spite, but hopefully Carpenter can adjust to Sutter's system quickly.

But didn't Richardson have over 58% and doesn't Carpenter have 52.3%?
Looks like Carpenter has better defensive metrics, which is what matters.

Yeah it pissed off some Pens fans thinking it was disrespecting Mario IIRC. It was just a number he was assigned by the Flames.

We should make every 5th, 6th or 7th rounder who makes it to development camp wear #99.

It's so interesting how you remember some players but not others. First guy I thought of that wore 18 was Lombardi, and then Yawney. Didn't think of any of the other guys. Forgetting about Stajan was surprising.

I thought of Stajan and Lombardi almost simultaneously! Then I thought of James Neal… …then I thought of Lucic (unrelated to the number 18 of course lol)

I joked about the Brad Richardson upgrade earlier in the day but the quiet afternoon was warranted in Calgary as they really have all they need here and in the system to do some serious damage in the playoffs.

First one I thought of was Stajan, then second one popped in my head was Neal (BARF). I had to think hard to recall Lambardi and Yawney, memory is receding at my age.

Didn’t expect to see this signing at all today. Figured it’d be a left shot dman that would be acquired instead. Oh well, more depth at forward. Just caught a bit of one of his games earlier in the season. He certainly has a lot of elements that this organization seems to covet.
Seems to be very versatile; can play wing or center, any special teams. Has a decent shot and can make a slick pass or two. But his forecheck and ability to take the body should be his bread and butter. Without a doubt he’ll end up a 4th liner here, but he looks reliable, low maintenance and should be a real solid addition to the playoff push. His game seems to shout “hard to play against.”

So by losing Richardson, it cost the Flames a 5th rounder to essentially replace him with Carpenter?

Treliving is on record saying the two things weren't connected. They were going to acquire Carpenter whether Richardson cleared waivers or not. In fact, it appears they waived Richardson specifically to make cap room for the Carpenter trade.

I apologize for saying that it was "almost guaranteed" that we were gonna pick up a depth defenseman.
