Kylington only had possession because he is one of the three or four fastest players in the NHL. He still had to make a split second decision because he had his back to the rest of the developing play and he made the decision to get the puck to a safer place.
Did it backfire?
Yes.
Is it a play worth magnifying?
No. Hockey is a fast game, and the speed at which it is played today is magnitudes faster than the speed it was played at decades ago. That play could just as easily been someone picking his pocket in the slot, and that would be far more eggregious.
