We really need to drop the memes thing. I know you guys think your jokes are witty but bullying and ridiculing a long time poster makes you guys look childish.
It was dealt with last game we don't need a bunch of wannabe comedians bringing it up after every game.
Sorry for my ignorance, but who/what are we talking about?

Obviously Backlund and Coleman looking great together, but Pitlick is a solid player too.
One of the things I’ve noticed about Pitlick is he’s consistently good at getting by D on the dump and chase compared to most of our guys that get stood up, angled off or pinched on the wall.

He's great at getting the puck past the D to get out of the zone, and getting it deep and getting on the D going into the offensive zone.
He does a lot of little things well along the boards

Surprised Markstrom isn't getting more love in this thread, he was fantastic. Looks like last year Markstrom right now. Like, good-early-last-season-before-injury-Markstrom.
This was Markstrom's single best game as a Flame IMO.
Unlike the early-last season games where he was seeing a heavy shot volume (35+ shots) this was a game where he actually saw the kind of play a championship goaltender sees - difficult saves like breakaways and such, but also long lulls in between the action.

This team has always come out flat after the first game back from a road trip. Doesn't matter who the players are or who the coach is, that's just how they do it.
Expect nothing less tonight. Igor will need to keep them afloat before they get their legs and decide that they should try to win the game. Hopefully before the last 5 minutes of the 3rd period this time.
Quote:
I'm hoping there is no letdown after a W on the road. The concerning thing for me is the PP. I also cant stand seeing Panarin on the RW during the PP.

Good ol’ Sutter Hockey™

I feel like the Flames have had a Sutter in one capacity or another since their inception.

Coach Sutter owns us btw.

ah, the old Sutter system of "pump as many shots on net as humanly possible and the crash the net"

Predicting Reaves first fight tonight with last change and Lucic/Gudbranson skating for Calgary

Cmon reavo you said your body is a temple

Agreed... The Flames are the toughest team in the league. Either way big win tonight incoming!!!!

Fun fact: I’ve hated every Darryl Sutter team.

How many defensive zone turnovers so far? 5?

Classic Rangers rope-a-dope. Got the Flames right where they want them.
Quote:
Why is it so easy for other teams to maintain possession but so hard for us?
Quote:
Are we positive Calgary hasn’t had their goalie pulled the entire game?
Quote:
The Flames could just take the rest of the game off because the Rangers will be lucky to score 1 goal in this game.
Quote:
Lets hope they get tired of beating us
Quote:
Darryl Sutter hockey is anti hockey. The amount of interference going on right now is a joke and the refs just let it all go. Impossible to forecheck when the refs are letting the off side D just straight up interfere with the guy trying to forecheck.
I despise his system.

So sluggish.

that’s a really bad goal. left way too much open space on the short side

Ah the classic Rangers defensive strategy of "ehhh that other guy will get it"

When does this team show any semblance of defensive zone structure.
This is f***ing embarrassing.
I don't think there has been a game where we have not been outworked and outplayed.
Staff and team should be ashamed

Why are we always the sloppiest ####ing team on the ice? Always.
Quote:
Turns out relying on your goalie to make 15 saves before the 1st period is over is not a reliable strategy.
Who knew? Certainly not the Rangers since we keep doing this

That sequence probably the game. Blais robbed then a horrific turnover and it’s 2-0

Laf more often than not completely invisible on that Mika line

I didn't like that line change from Laf. We just kept the puck and had numbers in our favor for an actual play.

Laf doesn’t know what sport he’s playing without Samuel Blaze.

I need WAY WAY more from Alexei Lafranchise - dude is invisible.

Lafreniere on the PK? Okay…

I don't think this is the real Lafreniere. I think the real Lafreniere is hiding out in the forest of Quebec living off of wild blueberries ever since he knew he was drafted by New York and leaving his beloved French Quebec.

He's such garbage so often. Org is f***ed with this for 8 years.
Quote:
Yea, I just don't think we could ignore the lack of offensive zone and neutral zone play at this point. Way too many red flags. I'm not even talking about lack of chemistry. The team should be able to string a couple of passes together, this is the national hockey league. I think that because Gallant is passive and lets the players kinda run the train, and Quinn never really taught them how to run an effective offensive zone scheme, they just have no idea what to do. Would have been nice if the previous coach was a structural coach.
Quote:
Our “defense” is non-existent.
I know Gallant is an O -first coach but this is ridiculous.
Thank GOD we have Shesty, though even he won’t be able to sustain this.
Trouba seems to spend an awful lot of time below his own goal line. That’s not a productive place to be when the puck is not there. It may give him opportunities to show us how tough he is cross checking guys from behind, but it doesn’t help prevent goals.
Yeah, I’m hard on Trouba because he has been paid and spun as the anchor and QB of the defense.
Anchor isn’t supposed to mean dead weight.
The team has shown explosive ability in flashes like the late third Sunday, but giving 3 odd man breaks n the last minute and a half of the period is inexcusable.
Nobody in position, everyone wandering.

We are just not very good. This really sucks and is deeply concerning.
Three years of an awesome and steady rebuild loaded with optimism. Last season in the toughest division, with the youngest team, with no preseason we scratch amd claw and were in the mix.
With literally no changes, NONE, except for one year of growth for the young players we would have been ready for a run at the playoffs.
Now? Who knows. Yes, we have won some, which is cool, but we have not looked like a strong team in any game.
Really worrisome because it is not clear what we can do next besides hope things get better.

That was a f***ing EMBARRASSMENT

Absolutely. He was always a goalie who could be a Vezina candidate while being hammered with 40 shots a game. It’s nice to see him settle in and make the big saves when he needed to. Great performance.
