Good depth player, for a team desperate to shake up the top line players on the team...

Well, hopefully he's good for the first few years. Feels like a regrettable signing after that.

Love it. Coleman has a great motor and projects to be a high 40 point 20 goal player.

Like the player but don’t love the length of this one. I guess you gotta pay up to sign free agents.

That chart from Dom is exactly why I'm nervous about the last 3 years, but there is no doubt that the Flames are better today than they were yesterday. Blake Coleman is a great player.

The Flames now have $13,725,000 in cap space to split between

Dubé, Zadorov, Välimäki, Mackey, Kylington, Gawdin, and a backup goalie.

That said, Mackey, Kylington, Gawdin should all make league minimum.

leaving 10.75M or so for the other 3 players + a goalie.

Not a bad signing in isolation, but Treliving needs to do more for sure.

Just going to put this out there. If the Flames are getting Coleman, Danault and/or McGinnis for any length of term. This kind of squeezes Mangiapane out from a raise does it not?

Like the more this shakes out today I cannot help but think he would be the 9ne in a proposed Eichel trade.

Maybe in the minority here, but I don’t see basically anything good about this signing.

Never scored a lot. Not that big. Overrated probably due to a couple Cups with Tampa.

Looks to me like we’re paying 2nd line dollars for a 3rd liner.

Also-ran organizations have no choice but to spend like this on depth players so par for the course. Stanley Cup contenders are not built this way but that's never been the goal for Flames ownership. Simply making the playoffs is the marching orders and Treliving has added a piece that will help his coach squeeze out a few more regular season games in the race for the bottom two playoff spots in the West. High fives all around in Flames headquarters today.

I think on Calgary, Coleman will be a top 6 guy but on a loaded team like TBL he was an ideal 3rd liner.

As far as the trade, I like the player but I think this contract is a mistake. Is a player like Coleman really the type of player that is missing in Calgary? I hope Tre has a trade on the backburner.

Had excellent results on poor New Jersey teams before going to Tampa, where he continued to have excellent results.

He scores at a great rate while providing incredible defense.

Coleman was outstanding in New Jersey, but this can't be the whole day for CGY.

Great signing! This is another huge coup for Tre, after getting Marky and Tanev last year. A TON of teams were after this guy, and he chose us. He’s a proven winner, and was a key cog in Tampa’s SC run. Great two-way player, high motor, and mean. Perfect Sutter player.

I just struggle with deals like this.

Coleman is a good player, but when you give him term and AAV like this, the negatives overshadow the positives.

Stanley Cup contenders don't give out contracts like this to middle six players.

Ideally you find a Blake Coleman before he comes a Blake Coleman and demands a $30 million contract.

This makes the Flames better, undoubtedly, but it probably doesn't move the needle much as a whole. The team missed the playoffs considerably last season and are no better this season. If anything, this contract just helps the Flames pick 14-18th overall next year.

like I said, love the player. Coleman was buried a bit in Tampa (as was Gourde), but he was awesome in New Jersey. Should fit Sutters hockey very well too. Contract is a year too long and a bit too expensive, but that's what happens in free agency.

Thank God I was so sure Friedman guessing 6mill was on the money.

He's being paid slightly more than 2015 Frolik AAV. I like it.

This so much.

You never want to be the highest bidder on free Gency day for anyone but a 1st line / top pair star.
