I honestly don't think this guy is very plugged in.
I don't have a clue if this is true or not, but we have several teams talking to UFAs with permission across the league (likely some without permission as well)
It's like he literally missed that NYR had agreed to a contract with Goodrow, then traded for his rights, then signed him.
The guy with more term left and more dollars per year will be the worse contract at that point, so I disagree that you couldn't trade Coleman for Hyman at that point if their declines are similar.
They likely will have Calgary and Edmonton on their respective No trade lists.
I don’t believe it not because of Joe Smith but I have a hard time believing a player like that would come here.
I could see the Kraken but why Calgary?
I think it is abundantly clear by now that by-and-large a lot of NHL players do not share the same feelings as fans about one market over another, nor about how they evaluate a given hockey team. On the one hand, most fans are not experts when it comes to evaluating teams, potential and talent. But on the other hand, neither are NHL players. for all we know Blake Coleman actually believes that the Flames are going to be a highly competitive team in the short-term.

My bad. For whatever reason I thought it was all on Monday.
Either way I'd be surprised if Tampa was against it.
Yeah there are generally two ways to do UFA rights trades.
1. Soft agreement. GM gives permission for other teams to talk to pending UFA with the condition that if team gets to a point where they feel really confident they can sign the UFA they agree to give compensation and the trade is made.
2. Hard agreement. GM straight up says no negotiations before trade. Teams have to gamble if they can sign him before free agency happens (not accounting for tampering )
Tampa knew they wouldn't be able to re-sign Goodrow due to their massive cap issues and got a seventh rounder for letting the Rangers talk to him early.
