1) Keith will not be better than Barrie was on the PP
2) No, Keith cannot "eat up" 2nd pairing minutes.
Keith's partner is probably going to be Bear (assuming they re-sign Larsson or sign a replacement for him, to play with Nurse). Keith and Bear would be an absolutely horrific 2nd pair.

You aren't getting a sweetheart deal or any type of retention from Chicago.
So why do this before the Draft / Free Agency opens. Keith for a 3rd in 2022 is probably still there on August 1st if you want to do it.

Can we talk about the insane amount of picks Holland has traded with getting nothing back?
Death by a thousand cuts going on in Edmonton right now

Hard to see this as anything but a massive overpay by the Oilers, at least if you go by Keith's advanced age, 1st-pairing d-man salary & major drop in point scoring production.
That said, I haven't watched Keith closely and don't trust iffy stats analysis where he shows poorly.
|
lol. Stats say he sucks but we traded for him, therefore they must be wrong.

Why didn’t those idiots just take the 5.5 million and re-sign Tyson Barrie?

Frankly, this season was only played at all because of contractual obligation. Some players/teams capitalized, others didnt. But I'm putting zero stock in anything that happened this season.
Its an outlier. An aberration.
|
I am saying everything went perfect for the Oilers and they still got swept in the first round...they are a bubble team IMO
lets hope they miss and McDavid demands a trade

So the upside is he hasn't watched him therefore the underlying stats are not to be trusted?
Lol
He actually started sensible, but couldn't resist packing some stupid in at the end.

I think users here overplaying Oilers cap space issues. Next year they have a whopping $32M+ in cap space after you account for Keith with only Nurse/Starting Goalie to sign.
|
That cap space is great but looking at 2022/23 and they have:
No goalies signed.
Keith, Bouchard, Broberg signed for d-men.
McDavid, Draisaitl, Neal, RNH, Kassian, Shore signed for forwards.
So they have $32M but need to sign 2 goalies, 4 d-men, and 8 forwards (Neal/Shore aren't everyday NHLers). $2.3M per open spot isn't that great. Epescially when you truly need to fill at least 2 top 6 forwards spots, and probably 3 out of 4 of your top 6 on defense.
It's great to have space but you still need bodies and to have guys fill those spots.
I guess the positive is when McDavid asks for a trade next year they will have space to take back a pick package that includes NHLers since they will have the cap and roster room.

It’s always funny when people bash “advanced stats” and then ask what they mean like 30 seconds later
But it’s even funnier if they haven’t watched the player and still reject any metric suggesting the player they haven’t watched is bad

I can't wait until Keith gets a few points early in the season for Staples inevitable article detailing why the Oilers won the trade.

Having cap space and no assets just means you are going to overpay every player...especially in Edmonton
the narrative has already switched from "Oilerz have tons of cap this summer" to "you just wait until 2 summers from now"
in the blink of an eye

No salary retained in Keith trade to Oilers. Jones and a 3rd back to Chicago.
|
I'm having a hard time deciding if it would be funnier if Seattle took him and the greasers lost the 2 assets for nothing. I doubt Keith waives though.

You know that's a guarantee right?
It may take as little as a one point game.

Oilers must still be thinking there’s a taxi squad they can waive players to in order to win a trade.

Did someone hack Staples' account? What is this objective thought nonsense.
His password is probably Oilers99 or IloveWayne
