Good players love competing best on best. I think Eichel would love to go head to head with McDavid and prove the gap isn't as wide as most believe.

I also think Eichel would love to play in a hockey crazed city, he just seems like a guy that loves the spotlight.

Well then step aside Elliotte, how can Eichel turn down this opportunity?

… who’s saying that’s the reason the Flames are out?

No need to be snarky. I doubt he comes to Calgary because they don't have the assets to get him.

I was kidding, don’t read it as snarky
I do wonder what the conversation has been around Tkachuk. Have the Flames even offered him or do Buffalo even want him? Would love to be a fly on the wall

I'm starting to think that nobody has the assets to get Eichel... in the sense that any team that wants him doesn't have the space or prospects to give Buffalo what they want and all of the teams that do have what Buffalo wants don't want to give them up for a player who is injured, already making top dollar, and doesn't want to play for a bottom feeder.
It makes me curious if teams are saying they are out because Buffalo has obtained some really strong offers and are trying to drive up the price between bidders, or if teams believe Buffalo has no offers at their price and they are saying they are out until the price drops.
I'm so curious to see what they ultimately get for him.

How does going from 31 potential buyers to 5 not change the dynamics in something like this??
All of this was because EF believes the Flames want to keep him and JG wants to possibly stay (depending on $$ and term of course) but also wants the market established by the other UFA guys.
If he isnt signed (or agreed to a deal) by the 25th...he has to be jettisoned before that clause kicks in or BT is just screwing the teams abilities to maximize returns.
Should never have ever even gotten to this point IMO.
|
Unless he was traded last TDL, there’s no way to avoid getting to this point. I don’t think JG’s agent, who loves to drag things out, was going to recommend any early deal.

I expect the Sabres are looking for the kind of return they would have got for a 100 per cent healthy Eichel and teams are balking. The Sabres are the motivated seller here, so they’re the ones who will have to lower their demands. I think when the deal is announced, we’ll be surprised at how modest the return was.

I want Johnny to sign in Calgary for obvious reasons, but a huge part of me wants to just stick it to snarky ass Eric Francis who gleefully proclaims on every broadcast that Johnny is as good as gone in Calgary.
Francis is so bad.

The 8njury is too much of a red flag. If he goes for his surgery, it may not work, if he goes with Buffalo's plan, it may limit what he can do when he does play.
I'm all for grabbing a center in trade but if you're going to sell the farm, you best make certain the player you're getting is going to be healthy. Especially at 5 years and 10m a year.
Personally, I'm okay with the Flames not selling the farm for Eichel right now.

Will Gaudreau next 7 years be as good as his first 7 ?
Since his rookie year Gaudreau has play 519 regular season games missing 15 games and had 169 goals, the 31st most goals over that period and 493 pts good for 11th over that time. His .95 ppg was good for 10th spot. He had a plus-minus of +20
Just using old fashion counting stats he was a clear cut all star.
Looking around him in the top 30 of these categories it is hard to find anyone other than Cam Atkinson and Hurbedeau and Monahan that had less team success.
Gaudreau is/was not a player to build a successful team around.
-----------
I doubt that his next 7 years will be as good as his first 7. He has fallen off from the heady Johnny Hockey days as the opposition has found out his tendencies and have limited his production after his career 2018-19 season.
He is a victim of analytics and analysis and better team defense strategies. He was unable to adapt or develop new strategies. He may have become a more physically cautious player over the last 2 seasons.
Will the Flames be able to get him a better supporting cast than Monahan and Gio were over the last 7 years?
Has he dropped his interest in playing in Philly or an eastern based team? Has interest in him dropped as his abilities as a team difference maker has been made more apparent?
IMHO the Flames will continue their mediocre success rate with Gaudreau as a top-3 core player. They need him to be a support player with 4-5 players better than him.
Can they find and pay 4-5 players more than 8M a year? Tkachuk and ?

^^^It’s quite difficult to get even halfway through one of your contributions without an “oh, this is a Ricardo post” occurring.
This spider sense has yet to be fooled.

You can tell first line- he puts weird spaces prior to question marks. Also the statement is stupid.

Lol what team has 4-5 players better than Gaudreau? There are 9 players in the entire league with a better ppg than him since he joined the NHL
