Agree, Chychrun was a beast and if he played anywhere else we'd hear more about it

So in the end, the final 8 are what you would have predicted at the start of the tournament, with Sweden being the surprising absence. So much for all the handwringing when the tournament began.

Pretty much business as usual yeah. Lots of upsets to begin with, then the best countries get their s### together.

If I had a Norris vote, it'd go 1) Chychrun, 2) Makar, 3) Weegar. No doubt in my mind Chychrun should be in the top-four for Canada. Chabot really isn't in his ballpark.

With Hedman having one of the worst years of his career, I think the field is definitely a lot more open. It's time for Chychrun to start getting more praise for just how good he is.
Yet he still outscored Chychrun in fewer games.

He might get some consideration from Hockey Canada but i would suggest that right now he is a ways down the projected depth chart

RS

Pietrangelo
Ellis
Weber/Doughty
Parayko/Hamilton

LS

Reilly
Chabot
Nurse
Morrisey/Sanheim/Chychrun

Something along those lines.

If they hold a summit with potential players and whatever these guys do early in the season next year will go a long ways to seeing who will be on the team.

All I know is that the guys who chose that Sochi team should really be consulted again...that was the most dominating team ever assembled IMO.

Gave up 3 goals in 6 games....against the best teams in the world.

Morrissey was one of the least effective players in the NHL this year. Can't see him meriting any serious consideration.

Really don't know what Nurse has done to earn it, either. There's a lot of evidence suggesting this past season was a pretty significant anomaly.

This isn't world parity. It's lowest common denominator hockey with whoever wants to show up.

Goaltending is clearly the difference. Goalies stealing tournament games accounts for most of the wins. Canada & US goalies are at a disadvantage due to the larger ice surface (different angles). Only two Euro teams have goalies on their roster who have played in NA.

Call me when the big boys show up.
I would have to agree. Not many "a-list" players. Don't ask me how (coincidence) but I got to see the 2015 IIHF World Championship trophy today and see the names. Yikes. Crosby, Spezza, Burns, Mckinnon, Giroux, Seguin, Eberle, Hall, Ekblad, etc. And some guy named Smith as a goalie. That's an "a-list".

what do you call Chychruns year then?

And what do you mean Morrisey is one of the "least effective" players?

I mean the Jets got straight-up dominated when Morrissey was on the ice. Bled goals and chances. His contract is looking like an anchor after his last two very ineffective seasons.

And Chychrun has been one of the better two-way defencemen in the NHL for the last three seasons... his scoring was all that blossomed this year.

Makar, Toews , Ekblad, Letang and Theodore are 5 other D that I would place ahead of Chychrun, on TC.

Chychrun is better than all but Makar on your list. By a long long way.

I think in this case it could actually be said that line numbering doesn't matter. That Crosby line could easily be the best. Or the MacKinnon line.
Why does everyone keep putting McAvi at center? Let alone the 1C. He barely plays center on his own team. I feel like they would be way better off putting him on the wing with someone like Point or Scheifele as his center. Let him use his speed with the wider ice and not have to worry about defence as much (which he already cares little about).

I believe the plan is for the Beijing Olympics to use NHL-sized ice.

Yeah...mental error...i was just blurting out guys from memory and which side of the ice they played...all of which would likely be higher up on any Hockey canada depth chart. They dont tend to forget about who has played the game at a high level for years...they are funny that way.

So Makar is yet another guy ahead of Chychrun on the chart.

All I know is that whomever was involved in picking the Sochi team is at least hopefully consulted. That was the most dominant team I have ever seen in far too long of watching this game.
