That season is looking more like the exception than the rule.

Valimaki is having a difficult transition to the NHL.

Flames aren't playing bad most nights they just have no finish
if the team had a good record we would look at this game and say "close game, could have gone either way" but when they have a bad record its magnified
offseason mission is to find some finishers
Look at the last 10 or so games...couple goals here and there would make a MASSIVE difference

But by being below the 50% mark, by the law of averages, they're going to lose more games than they win. It isn't good enough.
Now compare it to Ward's tenure.

I was told by the poster that scoring had been a problem for years.

Valimaki looks like he was overrated by BT. Should be in the AHL now. Overmatched in the NHL.

Why compare to Ward? What is the point of that?

Yes, puck hitting a stick is a good defensive play
As was the early season save by Forbort
And many others
So what? Only the shots that go in count
|
You just want to pick a fight...its a shot going in a wide open net that hits a random flailing stick. 9 times out of 10 it doesn't hit it. Nurse got lucky he was on his ass ffs.

Smith is playing well now but honestly how long is that going to last. Guy is having one last hurrah...what are the Oilers gonna do give him a 6x6. Long term they still need to find a goalie.

Feels like such a fluke season. I've watched him become unraveled for so many years that at 39 him figuring it out elicits an eyeroll and a boulder sized grain of salt.
I suspect in a playoff series the Leafs would light him up.
It seems like the more competitive he gets, the more prone he is to imploding, so I would bet on it happening then.
What a joke though. In a vacuum Markstrom really should be the better goalie. And yet even that has failed us somehow.
Its hard to comprehend. So I'll just call it a load of bs and move on.
I'm pretty done with this darkest timeline crap. Luckily I've tuned out for the most part and haven't watched a full game in a couple weeks. Will continue down the path to hopefully complete apathy.

And they are never going to do that when ringing the puck around the boards to the D and relying on point shots and traffic is the primary offensive strategy (hyperbole... kind of)
I actually don’t believe Darryl is opposed to goals off the rush, but suspect it’s an insistence that once you’ve gained the zone, if there isn’t anything else obvious, that’s what you do.

Their top paid forwards are primarily responsible for generating offence.
They are the problem. Have been for awhile.

What about what I said was wrong or are you just here to Oiler troll as usual?
Flames are losing most of these games by one goal, a goal here or there would obviously be a massive help.
Make sure to come back when the Oilers get pounded in the playoffs

Dude, I don’t understand what fight there is to be picked
Shots that goalies don’t stop but hit iron or go wide are just ####ing nothing, man. Not an indictment on, or a victory by a goalie. Just shots that weren’t going in anyway

Oilers had better chances. The stats say so. So saying a goal here or a goal there is just stupid cause the oilers could say the same. I’m only picking on you because you’re the biggest homer around here and I’m drunk so ha!

Man, looking at the standings as they currently sit, the Flames are angling towards another 6th overall pick.
They should sit Tanev and Hanifin for a few games.
On the bright side, I'm enjoying the games more of late as I've abandoned any hope the team can make the playoffs, and am supplementing each game with a healthy dose of hooch and chocolate. It's much more Zen.

Its not always the saves you make, but when you make them. Needed that third one, but our issues extend way beyond Markstrom. He'll be alright.

For one thing I was talking about the last 10 games not just tonight. Flames are losing one goal games they could obviously use more finish. Natural Statrick has the Flames with more chances but its close anyway.
Saying the Flames need better finishers is hardly a homer comment.
Seeing you idiots knocked down a peg is the only reason to watch the playoffs after that I will be done with the NHL until next year.

This team just has bad chemistry. We pinpoint certain players but this team is just disconnected. Nobody knows where anyone is, nobody knows what each other is doing, where they are going, who's covering who, etc etc. It's like 19 individuals on the ice. It's ugly. But the good news is we're still not out of it. Bingo said earlier if we can finish 17-2. That's only 1 loss so we just need to finish 17-1 and we'll be okay.
