Would you not agree that Darryl sitter squeezed a lot of a subpar roster?

I don’t know. They seem to have at least a couple guys up there that can play.

Where Ward has failed is getting them to do those things properly. Johnny still insists on carrying into traffic and getting funnelled. Bennett, who’s a decent dump and chase player, dangles into the middle of the ice. And when they do dump, they don’t support. So I think Ward’s problem is the opposite of players doing what he’s preaching. It’s players not doing what he says. Which is still a Ward problem.
But it’s also been a Hartley problem, a Gulutzen problem and a Peters problem.

I believe that hockey is a bit like football this way. You guess what your opposition is going to do and you adjust. The hardest part to counter is unpredictability. Johnny is a much bigger threat when he shoots or drives the net even when he doesn't score, because defenders don't know how to defend anymore.
Canucks scouted us perfectly...short center pass in our own zone to break out. We couldn't complete a pass to save our lives after that. Oilers and Canucks likewise scouted us well on offense. Every pass goes into the corner and dig. If you can keep the flames to the outside..there is no threat. You have to throw a defense splitting pass like Johnny converted in game 1 or 2. It's the only way to keep the defense honest. We look like a football team with a mediocre running back that won't throw the ball...In a series based season this is a killer...and 100% on Ward.

Treliving must be feeling heat here as he's ultimately responsible for this mess and probably knows that telling his bosses the team need another new coach isn't going to go well. As a fan I feel I can't lose here because if Treliving is too scared to fire Ward then the team should end up with a top 7 pick in the draft and hopefully a new GM will be making that pick. The good thing about this shortened season is that it will be over relatively quickly and fans will have a lot to look forward to with new management and some high draft picks.

There’s no denying the Oilers are still run incompetently, but even in saying that at least they hired Tippett. Who is not very good, yet still a good tier or two above anyone Treliving has hired.
I think it’s entirely to fair to look back at the beginning of the Treliving era, and the mistakes he’s made sense, and to come to the conclusion that he is a below average general manager.
I’m a big proponent of consistency, but the risk you run there is if you back the wrong horse...and it’s hard to argue Treliving was a good horse to back.

Dave Tippett isn't an elite head coach but he's a good head coach and he's doing his best to get the most out of that roster. It's not his fault he's been saddled with the worst goaltending situation in the league yet he's managed to spin that into 2nd place in his division. Ward has more to work with and he's got his team out of a playoff spot in a free fall.

Oilers aren't really 2nd in the div when you consider games played. They are also .500 against anyone other than the Sens.

That's my point they have 2 guys, yet the rest of the team does enough for them to win; Yet the Flames have some good young defenseman an above average goal-tender, lots of good players yet oilers are still doing more!

The bottom 4 teams in the division are all simply bad. On the bright side, we could make some significant changes to the team and retain a punchers chance at making the playoffs (which will be a crapshoot in this division, anyways).
Unfortunately, it's a terrible time to be trading good players.

We’re actually 4-2 vs Vancouver. Maybe seems like sub .500 because we got outplayed in 5 outta 6

They have 2 guys that we cant reach.
They also have RNH, Yamamoto and Pulju looks like he starts doing something useful.
Our defense looks promising but just as bad as theirs now.
The only thing we have better is goaltending but looks like Markstrom is on his way to burn out.

Never said they weren't...point is the Oilers aren't getting tons out of their roster. It's actually a pathetic record considering you have McDavid.

I'm pretty sure they are over .500 against the Flames and have a better record than the Flames. Tippett has done a pretty good job here all things considered as they are trending up.

You don't think we are good enough to beat the oilers? I have a hard time believing that was the best our team can do, or our best effort.

Not only Tippett but the Oilers have Ken Holland too. They will slowly get turned around as much as we like to mock them.
