Would love to know the $ value of the offers he did receive. Seems like there were discounts all around for UFA’s this year.

"Winning is important" and "it isn't just about the money" when speaking about the possibility of a short term deal doesn't compute when comparing Colorado to Buffalo on a one year deal. If he choose the AVs he would rack up the points playing with the likes of MacKinnon.

A Hall - Mackinnon - Rantanen line would’ve been a nightmare for this conference.

Wow. I mean makes some sense as he looks to build his value playing with Eichel, but still completely out of left field.

To me it sounds like he's set on a team (Maybe Calgary?) and wants to see if they can make a play and move a contract to fit him in.

wow... didn't see that coming... Eichel must be happy
a little surprised that ppl are upset about it; I don't recall Hall ever saying he wanted to play in Calgary...
Calgary doesn't even have 8m in cap space..

Save the offseason?
IMO this has been a pretty good one for Calgary. We got two really solid players added to the lineup, drafted well and stocked the cupboards.

I hope he scores less than half a point per game and has to settle for half of that AVV next off season.

I don't see why so many people are raging about this contract. It's his future, not ours. Also people who are poking with the "I want to win" comments, last I checked, everyone wants to win. I'd rather him be in a different conference than in this one on the Colorado Avalanche.
I tend to look at player contracts in the Flames perspective, and this is good.

My guess is like Arizona, he picked a team that won't pursue him long term because he wants to deal with a position of strength and preferably place where he wants to play.

Its interesting. He gets Paid, then can pick teams they can trade him to at the deadline.
Buffalo could also look at it as he helps them make the playoffs, or they buy some draft picks if they move him at the deadline

Its a go deal for the Sabres. Just puzzling on Hall's end.

Makes sense to me on both sides.

+ he has a NMC. He can just ask Buffalo to be moved to this destination of choice at the deadline, and make a better guess at which team(s) he thinks are the closest. Buffalo gets free assets for making Eichel happy for a bit.

Seeing these one year contracts is definitely COVID related. Hall was likely looking at a 10 mil plus contract with the expected cap raise at the time and now that’s been decimated. Buffalo has the room to sign him to more then a lot of other teams we’re probably offering and he’s likely banking or hoping on the fact that next year there might be a bounce back with the revenues and he can potentially sign that huge contract he was expecting.

Why is is puzzling? Maybe Hall has a long term plan and some control over his destiny. Lots of players don't have that option.

I get the one year plan but choosing Buffalo over a team like Colorado who he could rack up a crap load of points with to cash in next UFA season. Not to mention the "win" factor between the two teams.
