If Montour is on the way out in Buffalo I could certainly see him being a target for the Flames with both Brodie and Hamonic likely on the way out.
Montour+7th overall+Middlestat for Gaudreau and the rights to Jankowski
Hall-Monahan-Lindholm
Tkachuk-Backlund-Mangipane
Bennett-Middlestat-Dube
Lucic-Ryan-Phillips
Giordano-Andersson
Hanifin-Montour
Valimaki-Kylington
Rittich
Khudobin

I'm biased, but I'd rather have Cozens than the 7th overall if at all possible.
He could go back to junior next year, but there is a chance he could make the NHL too. A right shot center with speed to burn and tons of offense. Could even start him out on the wing and let him gradually work his way over to C which is what he did in junior.

With Buffalo having a need for a second line C and obviously looking to take immediate steps forward I see them far more likely to move the 7th pick than Cozens. Personally I rather have the pick anyway get a guy the Flames draft from day 1. I also really like the mix of players that could be available at that spot.

That's fair. I'm a Hurricane fan is all, and I'd be pumped if the Flames traded for Cozens.

Looking at the eastern teams, and who is available, with 1C potential as a priority, I think that this would be my list for potential landing spots for Johnny Hockey :
1) Connor McMicheal - Washington Capitals (if it were 'one for one' I wouldn't even be that mad)
2) Jesperi Kotkaniemi - Montreal Canadiens (plus roster player)
3) Dylan Cozens - Buffalo Sabres (or 7th overall plus roster players)
4) Morgan Frost - Philadelphia Flyers (plus another asset of equal value)
5) 6th overall + 17th overall - NJ Devils (not a fan of just picks)
6) Islanders Package (Noah Dobson ++)
7) Columbus Package (Bemstrom + Marchenko)
8) Florida Package (Aleksi Heponiemi ++)
9) Rangers Package (Victor Kravtsov ++)
just a tonne of options. I think that all of these are stomachable by the other team, and Tre might be able to get more out of them. All of these qualify in the 'rebuild on the fly' mould, where the team wouldn't lose much competitiveness but still secure a promising future.

If we were trading with Buffalo, I would be happy with either the pick or Cozens as a return-and I agree that Buffalo would want to trade the pick, as Cozens stands a better chance of being on the team next year. Aquiring Cozens, though, would give us something that's not available around the seventh pick-a center that's big, fast, and close to making the NHL.
What if the Rangers decided to get in the Gaudreau sweepstakes (not likely to happen) and offered one of thier young roster players, Giorgiev, and a 1st?

Not really an elite piece coming back for Gaudreau in that package.
Anderson coming off a 1 goal injury plagued year
Murray hasn't played a full season since 2016
Foudy is a nice prospect but hes not even a C
Bernstrom, again a winger without elite upside IMO
If the Flames trade Gaudreau they really need to get a potential 1C as part of the return

Foudy is a natural centre.

I'm afraid that injuries have finally caught up to Murray. He's has had a significant injury each of the last five seasons, and I think that it has started to effect his movement. He's still good, but not 4.6M good, considering the risk.
Do you not think that they would give up Berstrom and Marchenko together? I would say that those are the two most valuable assets that the Jackets have. I would ask for both for Gaudreau alone, and shift Kylington to the right side (where I've been told he has played internationally).
Anderson and Foudy are both hit or miss type players, but I wouldn't make them central to a deal. Anderson gritty but reckless (needs to learn to protect himself), and the fall from grace could be a hiccup or a sign, Foudy is lightning fast but needs to learn defense. I would put both of them on the second tier of players to ask for.

Murray is in the deal as an upgrade over Kylington and a stopgap for Valimaki. I think he'll figure out his injury issue at some point. If not he's a UFA soon. If he does... I still think there's top pairing upside there. He reminds me of a better Brodie.
Foudy and Bemstrom are two really solid gets for the future. The way I see that deal... you get two guys to complement the current window and two guys to support the future.

Without knowing too much about the two prospects, that proposal feels very similar to the Phaneuf trade
We're giving up a premiere player for a bunch of 2nd, 3rd liners.

I spose Murray bears a passing resemblance to Ian White, maybe, but the rest of the guys don't really feel similar at all.
Mayers was 35, Hagman was 30. Anderson is nothing like Stajan. Foudy is a top centre prospect with a ton of upside and Bemstrom had a very strong rookie season at age 20.
Both Foudy and Bemstrom are very promising young RHS centre prospects and Anderson and Murray are both very good NHLers... I don't know what more you can expect?
Edit: my mistake, Foudy is a LHS. Still a natural centre with tons of speed and skill, the Jackets' first-rounder in 2018. If you're talking about Morgan Frost as a guy to target in a Gaudreau trade... well, Foudy is much better.

Alternatively I'd love to see something around Gaudreau for Oliver Bjorkstrand +.

With all due respect, I disagree. Foudy is slighly bigger, and definitely faster, but many question if he has the hands and vision to play a top-six role. He will, undoubtedly, be an NHLer one day-but it will probably be as a very good third liner who fills in in the top-six when needed. Frost has a higher ceiling, with better offensive tools, but not as fast as Foudy. One could argue that Frost might have a higher chance of busting, but I think it's safe to say that Frost edges out Foudy as a prospect.
