A new poll: What is the best fast food restaurant?
I miss Bob’s.
What happened to them?
Edit: clarifying as I don’t mean the TV show, I mean Bob’s bigger better barbecue broiled Alberta beef burgers.
Used to be one in Village Sq Mall

I think they overexpanded too quickly and got in trouble. There was one by the Glenmore Inn that hung on a lot longer than all the rest, but it seems to have gone away now too.
Willy's is another one that had locations all over the city, then suddenly disappeared.

The one by the Glenmore Inn was Bob’s in name (and logo which was an awesome Pac-Man like thing) only and not in the food.
I would do horrible and awful things to have one more Willy’s burger

Do you regularly reheat submarine sandwiches?

I’ll get a foot long for lunch and save half for the next day eat it at about 2:30. I don’t reheat it though, that sounds gross.

I mean you literally put a chain that isn't in Calgary on a poll on a Calgary message board. The rest are just standard "OMG, I can't believe this is on here and this isn't" poll anger which would be there no matter what you do.
But I'd argue that a minimum requirement on a Calgary based poll would be that we can get it here, that's the only thing that stuck out as immediately odd to me.

My favourite McDonald's burger is probably the Ebi (shrimp) burger in Japan. So damn good.
In Korea, they have a bulgogi burger, in the Philippines, they also serve spaghetti to compete with Jollibees and in China, they have fried chicken!

X2
That Ebi burger is delicious and it was the only thing I ate whenever we stopped by a McDonalds

You could classify it as a Fast Casual restaurant
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fast_casual_restaurant
Quote:
A fast casual restaurant, found primarily in the United States and Canada, does not offer full table service, but advertises higher quality food than fast food restaurants, with fewer frozen or processed ingredients. It is an intermediate concept between fast food and casual dining, and usually priced accordingly.
The company Technomic Information Services defined "fast-casual restaurants" as meeting the following criteria:[7]
-Limited-service or self-service format
-Average meal price between $8 and $15
-Made-to-order food with more complex flavors than fast food restaurants
-Upscale, unique or highly developed décor
-Most often will not have a drive-through
|
IMO Five Guys, Fat burger, Smash Burger, Mucho Burrito... all fit that category
Putting Five guys in this poll among fast food restaurants is like entering a Heavyweight fighter in a Welterweight tournament.

I like Fatburger but it's on the higher end for price compared to the other burger joints

What sauce is on the ebi burger? It looks like a mildly spicy mayo.
Subway in the top 4 is weird, probably because of my summer student position quite a few years ago where I was the gopher grabbing lunch for the guys and I ate subway probably 60 times in 3 months. Woof.

I would describe it more as a sweet mayo like sauce than a spicy. They’ve also done other versions of the Ebi burger where it has a sweet sesame sauce instead
It’s not the sauce that makes it, the best part is the patty. Seasoned minced shrimp encased in a crispy and crunchy croquette. This beats our filet o fish every day

Subway is the only fast food place where I have to drink a gallon of water after eating because of all the salt in their meats. I can't imagine eating there regularly unless you are getting veggie subs or subs with very little meat.

Not regularly. I have had fast food like maybe twice per year in the past 10 years. But I can't eat a whole foot long in one sitting. That is a lot of food.

How is it any different than reheating pizza?

This much is true. The Italian BMTs are the worst for that.
I find McDonald's and A&W pretty dehydrating as well. It's hard to tell when combined with all the cheese, ketchup and onion, but if you have ever tried a McDonald's processed meat disc on it's own, it tastes just like salt and that is it.

I don't ever reheat pizza. That usually comes out as a soggy mess.
In fact, I like cold pizza so much, I purposely save half a pizza and put it in the fridge so I can enjoy cold pizza the next day.

Try reheating it in the oven or on a frying pan over low heat with a lid on it.

Huh, I've never tried the glass of water thing before, but I've now grown so fond of cold pizza, I just eat it right out of the fridge.
Heck, I do that with leftover fried chicken too. I'm too lazy to reheat in the oven, so I just eat it cold. Tastes pretty good IMO.

savages. an oven and a baking sheet (ideally stone) will revivify anything to its original crispy state. sometimes depending on the food item it can even be an improvement as you have control of the broil function for additional crusting/browning.
the only things that go in my microwave are liquids and soft stuff like rice. I understand that convenience/laziness will often play a factor, but if you have a general idea of when you're wanting to eat, the oven route doesn't add any complexity to the process.
