I don't envy the sales staff trying to sell the new ticket prices if they let this limp along until the new arena.
Yep, but it sure seems like this is what will happen. Treliving will get another coach hire that they hang onto for a few years. Building will go up. New GM. New GM will work with coach for a year of rebuild. GM finds new coach at end of that year/beginning of new season.

If they have “overrated the talent”, how did they win the Western Conference?
Is Johnny a 65 pointer or a 95 pointer? Did we imagine 99?
By racking up points against teams outside their division? Pretty sure they ended up tied for 5th in the western conference, though 8th is probably more accurate if you use playoff wins as a tie-breaker.
I don't know it Johnny's reg season point total matters that much. He's a 0.43 ppg player in games that matter (playoffs) against any team that isn't built around the rotting corpses of the Sedin twins. If you scale that to 82, it's about 35...

This is some epic cherry picking...make your arguments with real stats not picking and choosing which games count and which don't
Canucks were a 101 point team and a deserving playoff team...those were NHL playoff games and the Flames were the underdog. To exclude Gaudreau's numbers from that series is stupid.

Gaudreau weak play in the corner, no support, cleared by Sharks.
Gio knocks it down a couple feet outside the blue. Might as well have missed it as he retreats back into our zone and waits for Gaudreau to get up and come all the way back for our patented PP entry.
Entry sorta works, but we turn it over again promptly.
Tkachuk makes an idiotic decision to dive at the puck carrier instead of skating back to the strong side of the puck. Sharks get short handed 3 on 1.
Biggest bust in the league Karlsson makes boneheaded decision as trigger man to pass backdoor, creates 3 on 1 the other way.
Lack of urgency turns it into a 3 on 2 for us, before lindholm and Gaudreau make a nice passing play for the goal.
So even before we went up 1-0, we could/should have been down.
No brains. No passion. No good. My first game in the Saddledome in years and I’m certainly not inspired to go back.

Yeah, makes one's coaching job a lot easier if one whole friggin side of the ice is basically a non-threat all game because of the ####ty forward balancing. You either have to be skating almost backwards or be on the backhand. These days in the NHL with how much tighter the gap control is, you can't split the D unless you are superstar caliber or even get one to open up the inside shooting lane.
Send Dube back down as I don't think he needs to go through waivers for another year, he's been ice cold and largely ineffective. And waive Reider. Bring up Czarnik and Phillips. Hell, bring up ####ing Zavgorodniy at this point.
With all due respect to the point you’re ultimately making, the players you noted are all pretty much at their least valued state at present.
If I knew how to add a pic or gif, I’d insert the one of Homer selling his pumpkin stock on Nov 1st.
I respectfully disagree. Let's use johnny as an example.
His value was undoubtedly at its highest possible before the playoffs last year- his highest ever point total driving the best team in the west's offence. The poor playoff showing probably hit his value a bit, but not much. People saw how dynamic he is just last year.
This season rolls around. The flames struggle. Luckily for Johnny it appears the whole team is struggling. There are coaching issues. Drama. Maybe personal issues.
GMs have good memories. They remember how dynamic johnny can be, and so far the evidence against his dynamism is still fairly limited. He's also on an incredible value contract for 2 more years of team control. Hes still leading this team in points.
Another poor playoff showing will definitely hurt that value as it will start to become a very pronounced trend. For now the jury is still out imo, and that is why we need to move him sooner than later.
I think this same thought process applies to hanifin in a slightly different way ( potential) . It probably doesnt apply to hamonic who has been dog#### for a few seasons straight now. Gio just won the Norris, but frankly I'd be more than happy just to escape the contract long term.
Please don’t misconstrue my initial post. The players noted are all talented and many are likely to bounce back. I was merely noting their value at present for a majority are at an all time low with respect to their overall worth via body of work. That doesn’t mean you’re not getting anything for Gaudreau if you trade him mind you, but it’s not as much as if he were playing the way he was this time last year and if the team as a whole weren’t spiraling. GM’s absolutely recognize talent, potential, down years, etc. But they also don’t throw sinking ships life preservers. They throw them anchors.
