I don't see how he's a realistic target unless it's massive overpay, TBH. That market desperately wants to make the playoffs. They've gone through years and years of rebuild, picks, and prospects. Can you imagine being a Panther's fan and suffering years of rebuilding, only to come close to the playoffs, and your team trades away a core piece of the team at the deadline rather than add to their team for a playoff push? I would say it's more realistic for them to acquire a pending UFA vs. getting rid of one.

Have to think that RHS means Lindholm is staying at center.

Trade for him, use him as a playoff performer, and then part ways.

Don't have to sign every player you trade for, sometimes just a good old fashioned playoff rental is just what the doctor ordered.

Don't think I mentioned blow up and sell? Lightning really? If the Flames made it to the Stanley cup finals and two conference finals in the past 4 years nobody would care what happened last year.

A second-round pick in a deep draft can go a long ways.

So you would rather follow the Oilers blueprint? Lol. You go for it with this roster

No, the Flames should do the opposite.

They should try to make the playoffs 8 years in a row or so (see Boston, Pittsburgh, Washington,St. Louis, Chicago before their mini rebuild).

This would be the opposite of the Oilers.
And how do you make the playoffs 8 years in a row? By not sacrificing away the future just to make the team better for a few months.

When you only have 2 out of 12 forwards who shoot right and 2 out of 6 dmen (regulars) it just means we have a massive dearth.

4 out of 18 regular skaters as RHS is atrocious.

And many want to trade Hamonic to boot!

Every single one of those teams made deadline deals to bolster their chances almost every single year so not sure you made the case you were trying to make.

I agree with you that Flames should not be sacrificing away future pospects, but that's the opposite of what the Pens did. They were lucky enough to draft two generational guys and ride that out throughout their careers. They are the poster child for sacrificing futures to supplement their current team, but they have the luxury to due to Crosby and Malkin. Having a competent GM that knows how to trade, draft, and develop guys also helps.

Please quote where I said anything about the Oilers blueprint. What even is the blueprint you're referring to?

Who did Boston, Pittsburgh, Washington, St Louis, Chicago add at the deadline that helped them win the Cup?

As long as they are adding youngish players like Lindholm and Hanafin I'm totally fine with trading picks or prospects. Your not really selling the future with these guys. Why wait 5 yrs on magic beans when you can get someone like them now on the upswing but further along in development.

That's what I'm wondering. Apart from Pittsburgh adding Bill Guerin for a song back in 2009, and Vermette to Chicago in 2015 who scored a few timely goals for them, I can't think of a single notable addition that pushed these teams over the top at the deadline. In fact it was only when they didn't blow their wad on major deadline deals like Iginla, Miller, Shattenkirk, etc. that those teams ended up winning.

Apart from Tofolli and Anderson, some other names that might fit the mold (and be reasonable)

Kase (was all but traded for Faulk)
Armia (big, rh shot, some hands)
Connor Brown (rh shot, pending rfa who Ottawa might want to cut loose if too expensive)

Would like Rakell and potentially even strome from nyr but that would probably cost more than we would want to pay.

Connor Brown is a guy I hoped the Flames would get from TO when he was buried behind depth on the right side.

Hes getting 20 minutes per game now and on pace for 51 points. Not bad.

Wasn't he also rumored to be part of the Brodie/Janko for Kadri trade?
