We don't know if it happened, but yes, the equip manager certainly could/should have tried to reach out to Aliu anytime in the last 10 years, or certainly in the last 10 days.
It would be one thing if the guy had moved on to another job in a different industry, but I would find it hard to believe he wasn't aware of the Peters/Aliu situation.

I'm not saying that at all. I've indicated twice in this thread that I would have voted for a Liberal party led by Chrystia Freeland. I didn't vote for Trudeau almost entirely because of blackface. A friend of my sister's was running as the Green candidate in our riding, I voted for him.
Statecraft is not an NHL coaching position. This country looks unconscionably weak if a prime minister has to step down because of costume parties that preceded the man's time in office. Especially when the country next door is having an existential crisis over whether or not a president can be removed for extorting an ally for political gain.
And if more NHL coaches had been caught screaming racist things before now, I assure you they would've been fired then too.

So what's the point in asking your previous question? Are you more concerned that some "good" people may be wrongly shamed over honest mistakes/misunderstandings? This thread is already about a million other topics, so feel free to cite an example from #metoo or anything similar...

I also think for situations like this, time should work against these people, not for them.
10 years doesn't mean its been too long for Aliu to discuss his experience. 10 years means that Peters and Deynzer have had way more time than needed to mature and make amends for their behaviour towards Aliu, but evidently didn't (and its possible there was no amends possible).

If you want him to resign, that's cool. I'm not even saying he shouldn't. I didn't vote Liberal in the last election, in large part because I found the blackface so distasteful. The repetition was especially damning - it's one thing to do it once and be corrected, it's another thing when another race is just your go to move at costume parties.
I'm ready for the Chrystia Freeland experience. I like the cut of that lady's jib. She saved a trade deal and did a great job negotiating with Trump's America. I'd have voted Liberal in 2019 if she was the leader.
|
I'm not trying to call you out, but Freeland supports Israel's genocide in Palestine and undemocratic, U.S.-backed coups, which I would say is at least as troubling as the blackface and I think it's important to mention.

Yeah I fired that off pretty quickly without thinking, but of course our blackface-donning PM and politics in general are going to be brought up in a thread about racism in hockey.

It's more appropriate in relation to this occurrence than in the Peter's thread, for sure.

It would one thing if the Trudeau posts were more along the lines of “good riddance!!! Let’s get Trudeau next! This will not stand for anyone!”
|
For some context my mothers side is Nigerian descent so you know where I stand. I think Trudeau is a schmuck obviously.

We are all aware Trudeau wore blackface. And if we weren’t, the first half-dozen try-hard comments reminded everyone well enough.

You're so woke congratulations to you sir. No more Justin bashing ill make sure to let Trevor Noah and anyone else daring to relate the situations to stop as well.

Keep trashing Trudeau if you want to. He's a racist and he deserves it. Anyone downplaying these facts are simply just feeling guilty they threw support behind him.
As Roachinen says, the duration should work against the racist. Trudeau had 20 years to come clean, and the only reason he did, was TIME magazine running the photos.
I'll say it again, blackface is racist and deplorable no matter the context.

He can speak for himself but I think he meant that, when there's an individual involved, like Aliu, there was time to apologize to that person.

Has this thread squeezed every drop of virtue signal-juice out of the Trudeau circle-jerk yet? Take it to the OT forum.
