T.J. Brodie is a 3 years younger and clearly better than Justin Braun. A 2nd and a 3rd would be very underwhelming.

If Bennett is included with Brodie for Kadri I’d want Kapanen included as well.
Kadri + Kapanen for Brodie + Bennett isn’t far of IMO

Brodie for a 2nd and 3rd doesn't sound appealing at all.
Not all 2nd rounders are equal though, so if it was to Ottawa and the 2nd rounder was 32nd overall this year that gets you thinking I guess. Especially if you and your scouting staff think you can snag a Brayden Point type home run pick in that spot.

Someone needs to again post that clip of defenseman scoring over the last 5 years. Brodie is right in the thick of things with supposedly elite defensemen and other guys making more money. He's actually a bargain.

I think Brodie's value is A LOT higher than people here seem to think it is. Top pairing Dman. Good offensive numbers. Good underlying numbers. Fast, effortless skater who can log huge minutes... Am I missing something here? I think he should definitely return a 1st round pick and possibly more. If it were a deal with Toronto, I'd expect it to be more like Kadri for Brodie straight up.

Agreed. Brodie is easily worth a 1st or a 1st+. Defenseman are extremely valuable. Top 4 defenseman are extremely valuable. Guys who can play top pairing and not look out of place are extremely valuable. Brodie is extremely valuable on the trade market.

I could live with that. Although, I think we'd have to accept the possibility that Bennett will put up bigger offensive numbers, if centred by either Matthews or Tavares, than he did here.

I wouldn't say he's easily worth a 1st+.

From a Toronto perspective it is. They need to make moves for some cap relief. Brodie for Kadri provides no cap relief. Kapanen for Bennett is just worse. Toronto gives up the better assets and takes on more salary. Bad deal for Toronto.

I am still very shocked to see that anyone on this board would want Kadri. He's an idiot. The guy has taken himself out of HALF of the playoff games in the past two years due to selfish, stupid plays. He made the 'cut throat' sign to Gio and every Flames fan wanted him banished from the NHL. He ended up getting a 5K fine for it, and no suspension, but the act was classless and displayed his true colours.
I was hoping for some kind of Kadri/Trouba deal for the Leafs. Kadri needs to be gone and go cause problems for another team besides the Leafs and the Flames, IMO. I don't give a flying squirrel turd what things look like on paper, Kadri is an ass and I can't wait to see him gone from TO
Edit: The icing on the cake, he said he 'didn't remember' doing the throat slash. Just wow.

Not every Flames fan wanted him banished. Some of us laughed it off as pathetically juvenile. Risky player to have for sure but he has traits a lot of the current Flames lack and the team needs.

So, after making that gesture to your Captain, this year's Norris Trophy Winner, and then saying 'he can't remember doing it,' you still think it's a good idea to mix this clown in with your core?
What traits does he have? Getting himself willfully suspended during clutch time?
I am sorry, I just can't stand him.

Well the big one is he is a very good, hard nosed hockey player. This team is the softest in the game, and he would address a good chunk of that weakness.
I would love to see him on this club.

Mark Jankowski is a nice boy. Not a great hockey player though.
Sometimes you accept that guys with that ‘give a crap’ factor are hot-headed numbskulls when they’re young, and you hope they grow out of it. As long as they help win games.

Kadri can play, and he is damn good at it. I can’t stand the guy but there is no denying that he is an excellent penalty killer who can score. His skill set makes him an ideal depth player for the second line. It’s no mystery why a team would add him; the risk is how his personality might affect the on-ice outcome in games—not at all unlike the risk attached to Brad Marchand.

Same age Marchand was when he figured out how to play on the edge without falling over.

This is a question that I suspect folks wont like - but how different are Kadri's antics compared to Tkachuk? How much would we hate Tkachuk if he wasn't a Flame
Kadri is a really good 2 way player. He also plays with the type of edge this team lacks
One has to decide if those benefits and filling those gaps on the team are worth taking on a guy that sometimes goes over the line
But finding guys that can toe that edge precisely and consistently is hard.
