I was hesitant and said I’ll wait and see if we make it to the second round.

No way this fan base can tolerate a decade more of first/second round chokes before we finally win.

A second round choke would mean dancing in the streets.

If you want to blame someone blame Backlund. Cost us 2 games in OT.

Well, guys, I didn’t think I’d live long enough to see a Flames jersey tossed on ice in Calgary. I’ve seen three tonight...
Alcohol time. Bye.

Iggy got the Flames past the first round one time...its hard for one player to do it all. Doesn't happen often.
He just isn't that kinda player, he needs support. It is what it is...he is a 6M forward

This isn't a good way to try to prove that Gaudreau is the weak link.
Gaudreau was far and away the best player on his line this series. It wasn't close.

The Flames are a key example of how it's hard to build a dynamic playoff team without immense suckitude. They simply don't have that outrageous talent that is so highly-sought-after.
Maybe it's because they're the only team (except Vegas) that has never had a top-3 pick. Whatever it is... I mean, I don't advocate for tanking, but it's just a reality. They don't have that above-everyone-else gamebreaker that gets sought after high in the draft. Gaudreau fizzles when the games get hard. MacKinnon explodes.

It's comical how you blast other players and defend Gaudreau with your dying breath.
Nobody is saying Monahan, Tkachuk or Lindholm played well. They are saying Gaudreau did not contribute offensively, which he didn't. End of story.
Is it anybody elses fault that he missed on a penalty shot, or missed the net entirely on a breakaway? The only thing Gaudreau did consistently, is whine.

Season isn’t over yet. Monahan gets to go to Vegas to see if he can collect his pansy Of the year trophy.

Way different than the Caps situation. They were perennial cup favourites for the last decade. We weren’t. Otherwise it’s a bit of a weirdly specific comparison for no reason.

Fair enough. So maybe he'd be a better peripheral/support player then. Not the main man. A Phil Kessel.

He could have done a lot. He needed to see the same movie four times in a row, apparently, and likely still hasn't figured it out. Failure to adapt or inspire.

Yeah so. How many breakaways did they generate or penalties did they draw? They did jack crap.
and that Lindholm goal was a terrible goal Grubauer let in.

Living and learning from tough experiences = maturity and wisdom
Lot of critical roster players, hopefully, are going to get better from what happened in this series.
They missed the playoffs last year and had 50 wins and were 2nd best in the regular season. That’s a significant improvement.
Yeah. Maybe I am too patient but I am not ready to sell out at this point.
|
Optimism is tough to find in this, but between Smith and TB I wasn't betting too heavily on this being our year anyway. I thought next year was going to be even better with G figured out.
However... I wonder if what we just saw probably does more harm than they'll ever learn from. I think we saw how awful this team is in the playoffs, and how far away they are from competing when it actually matters.
Our Norris defenceman was harmless
Our star winger was weak
Our top center was invisible
Our defensive center was outmatched
Those are huge problems that are tough to rebound from quickly. If anything, the Oilers one successful year amidst the mire was more successful than this team was. As they stand now, we had a miracle regular season amidst mediocrity.
There's a lot to prove next season.
