You are right about Monahan, but I think chances are high if not certain that he would be the best player in a trade. That was the point I was getting at.

I personally do not believe that the Flames need a better centreman, so trading Gaudreau and a defenseman is not especially attractive to me.

While goalscoring is important, it is not really a framework around which to evaluate players with other responsibilities. We saw this last year too with the insufferable "Dougie Hamilton has the most goals of any defenseman!!!".

Can you honestly say that you would reject "#1" center swap offers by the Flyers, Panthers, Avs because of the information you posted?

Monahan's goal scoring is an important part of this team and we certainly need it back. But defaulting to it as if that outweighs the many other aspects of the position - the aspects even a bottom six guy like Derek Ryan has excelled at in that top line role - comes across as cherrypicking. Especially when using career totals as if a team like Florida cares that Barkov had a slow start to his career with heavy responsibilities thrust upon him from the start.

I think we're very fortunate that Mikael Backlund is as good as he is at many of the duties expected of a #1 center, and together with Monahan's offense we have the equivalent of one, but center is still by far the weakest area on the team. There's no shame in admitting that.
I am not saying he's the best centre drafted since 2013, nor even the 7th best, but I am saying that based upon his goal scoring prowess, to say "he sucks" or "he is mediocre" is completely wrong.

Monahan also continues to not get enough credit for other things that he does well beyond his goal scoring. He is such a quiet player that it is easy to miss, but he is a very, very good hockey player, and not nearly as one dimensional as some present him.

Because he is so unassuming some will never be able to see anything but ... Stonehands Garbageman.

It is doubtful that he is injured. Beyond the fact that he is still playing games he has also been taking face-offs. One would think that if he was nursing something he would be used more sparingly.

Monahan was drafted in 2013.
Monahan has 169 career NHL goals.

Players drafted in 2013 with more goals - 0
Players drafted in 2012 with more goals - 0
Players drafted in 2011 with more goals - 2 - Landeskog (176) & Kucherov (185)
Players drafted in 2010 with more goals - 4 - Seguin (260), Skinner (241), Tarasenko (207) & Hall (202).
Heck, let's go back to drafted in 2009 - 4 - Tavares (317), Duchene (231), E. Kane (214) & O'Reilly (182).
Sure, let's add on drafted in 2008 - 3 - Stamkos (389), Eberle (205) & Atkinson (184).
(There are only 8 who were drafted in 2007 who have more...)

So, of the last 2,331 players drafted in the NHL, (2008 to and including 2018), 13 of them have more goals than Sean Monahan. 13. Thir-####ing-teen

Of those 2,331 players 1,059 of them were drafted before Sean Monahan.

Since the start of the 2013-2014 season, being when he was drafted into the NHL, he has the 15th most goals.
The 7th most for a centre.
This was a good post. Facts are fun. Thanks.

I don't know how anyone can be disappointed with Monahan's overall body of work since the Flames drafted him. He is easily the best centre we have had since Conroy and Savard (who never realized his full potential in Calgary). He is probably the best centre we have had since the Gilmour and Niewendyk days for that matter, although Conroy was a better two-way player.

I will also agree that the scorpion is one of my favourite posters, but I think he would be the first to agree that it wasn’t always so..

Remember how he used to get #### on every time he would start a thread? Or how his opinions were shot down hard if they didn’t follow the crowd?

This is 100% a tough place to get started in, especially if you have a different view point

You talk as if this is the norm for "professionals". I don't think it is. Plenty of people are affected at work by their personal lives. It's pretty natural I think.

Can you imagine if all the banned posters from CP started their own forum? It would be like if a bunch of inmates started their own country!

Oh wait...

Did we ban a couple of long time posters for having different opinions about players that the mob really like? Geez with the censorship...when did the mods become the propaganda police.

They weren't banned for having different opinions - lots of people have different opinions. It's how we have discussions. You and I have different opinions right here - no problem.

No.

Love was not banned for having a vapid and insufferable posting style, but for using it repeatedly to derail meaningful conversation about those things we disagree about.

If people disagree with you, you're going to need to learn how to live with that and either make a new point or move on with your life.

I've moderated a different sports forum for about 9 years now and I have a pretty good idea why these posters were banned. I would suggest contacting a mod via private message if you are curious why they reached the decision to ban these posters.

No problem now, but the mob has yet to arrive. One of you will be gone by midnight, mark my words.
