But your point is duly noted. As I pointed out in my post college-bound US-born players should be handled exactly as Treliving handled Adam Fox.

That Canes trade came together nicely for the Flames. Clearly Treliving went to that draft with a big for sale sign on Dougie and was willing to make a blockbuster. Rumors were the Flames almost made a deal with the Blues which was another team desperate to shake things up (which they did with Buffalo and free agency).
Carolina was another team looking to do the same. They had a new owner and they were going to take a hard stance with their RFA’s. Treliving pounced and also had some keen insight from Peters that probably helped make the deal.
This trade worked out for Calgary extremely well but remember half this board was screaming Treliving got fleeced and he made a trade worse than the Phaneuf deal.

It's entirely possible that Chia was incredibly intoxicated when that trade went down, so I guess it really depends on whether Shero was aware?

That's not really true, especially this season when BC and BU both really struggled.
In fact, of the 16 teams to qualify for this year's NCAA Tournament, ECAC has the most at 4 (including Harvard). Hockey East has 3. This season, only 4 of the 11 teams in Hockey East had records above .500. 7 of the 12 teams in the ECAC had .500 or better records.
The four major Conferences in the NCAA are pretty even with each other (with year-to-year fluctuations that you'd expect from any league that has a built-in four year turnaround for any program). In Fox's three years at Harvard, the ECAC hasn't been a weak link at all.
On top of that, because of Harvard's location in Boston, they always play a good number of their non-Conference games against Hockey East opponents. In the annual Beanpot tournament, Harvard is the only team of the four that isn't in Hockey East.

They had a discussion on the fan. If i heard correctly, sounds like previous to the trade Fox and his advisor were saying all the right things. A couple days before the trade they advised the flames they have no intention signing with the flames.

But Fox hasn’t had a chance to play in the NHL or the AHL. Dube may end up a better player but not for the reasons you’re listing.

Thanks for this. I was figuring my evaluation of league strength on individual player strength as it translates to the NHL, and the most current data for NHLe has ECAC ranked behind the other three Conferences. Perhaps that changes in the next couple years, but that doesn’t quell my concern much for how Fox’s size and foot speed will affect his performance in the NHL. He is still not as good as any of Anderson, Valimaki, or Kylington, and very possibly tops out under Dube.

No, Dube will end up being a better player because he is better suited to playing and scoring in the NHL. The numbers are what they are, and they show two 20-year-old players dominating their respective Leagues, but with Dube performing at at a higher level.

Honest Bet
Now.... IF Treliving somehow signs Adam Fox to the Calgary Flames immediately after his Senior year as a UFA, you have my word, I WILL HAVE A BRAD TRELIVING FLAMES JERSEY!

No you can’t go by dominating their “respective” leagues. Maybe you’re watching more of Fox play than I am, but otherwise these are not reasons for stating unequivocally Dube will be better. I am sure we want him to be but that’s not really relevant.

Frankly, we need D to fill out the AHL roster, our organizational depth has been hit hard by trades and promotions. It would be a huge signing for the farm, and he would instantly be on the top pairing. Unfortunately, I don’t think he’ll sign for anything less than a guaranteed NHL spot, so that pretty much excludes the Flames from his consideration.

It's kind of like the Justin Schultz thing, except by now I'm sure Fox and his agent understand that when people used to say "they're building something special up there" in reference to Edmonton, they were apparently referring to the now-completed clown college in downtown.

Right, but you can make a hypothetical projection on the basis of the mechanics of each player’s game as a means to predict future performance. I have already indicated some of the limitations that may hold Fox back, and which are the reasons why I have him ranked behind Dube.
In case anyone else missed it, Dillon Dube is having a hell of a rookie season in the AHL.
