|
I'd be fine with this. Get Lazar in there, bring some energy to the road trip and he likes to throw the body occasionally too.
Move Czarnik up with Tkachuk & Backlund. Lazar goes with Bennett & Jankowski.

I am not one to complain about penalties, but it also felt like the Flames were shafted in this one. The officials let all sorts of interference go on both sides, and then they called a soft one to give the Leafs a power play and a goal. That felt like an early turning point.

Wasn't the greatest of games. Thought the Flames carried the play but some bad bounces just sucked the momentum out of them. Rittich wasn't great but I also didn't think he was terrible. Frolik is an overpaid 4th liner now. Plays are just constantly dying on his stick and I would have no issue seeing him gone in the offseason. Bright note though is that the 3rd and 4th lines have been playing really well lately

I think this was a better Flames effort than the Wild game. In that one they did dominate the shot clock as well but got out chances on high danger chances. Here they did better in high danger chances although you can argue some of that is score effect. Regardless the Flames has a good effort, they just didn’t get any breaks to go their way.

I don't have season tickets but have friends who do. They sell these high $$ games to fund their season tickets. They are avid fans who need to claw some money back so that they can continue to go. I don't have a problem with it.

He let in 6 goals - your standards are too low.
Having said that it sure would be nice for offence to get back on track

I hope they can get over this bad breaks thing. In the playoffs if a series starts to go bad can end quick. Leafs were a much faster team to the puck, which is strictly an effort thing. Need to get going before they end up in third place, which will mean out in 4

I’m pretty confident that realistically the lowest the Flames could finish is second. They will not end up in third place.

I split season tickets and the only way we can afford to have them (another increase coming next season) is to sell some of our games. I can't speak for all season ticket holders that sell tickets but we are definitely not making a profit. Selling the prime games like the one last night only helps to cover some of the costs of year-long tickets.

Sell Boston, Pittsburgh, TB, SJ, Vegas. Hell, sell Vancouver and Winnipeg because they don't come out in the same numbers. Just don't sell to Oiler or Leafs fans.

This is exactly what is wrong with fans in a die hard hockey market.
We finally have a competitive and really good team again all thanks to Treliving. He has mad great move after great move. He has shown to be in on high caliber goalies in the past, but it just hasn’t worked out. He isn’t going to mortgage the future for Jimmy Howard. When a stud goalie comes available he will be there.
Or would you rather take a chance on a new GM? Maybe Feaster is available?

Not based on this game alone, but I don’t think we are going too far in this season’s playoffs. We are just a piece away from potentially doing so next season.

Problem is BT for whatever reason won't ante up for a goalie. If all we are willing to part with in the offseason is a 2nd or a 3rd, this is going to continue to be an issue.
Mike Smith should've been bought out or traded (yeah right) in the offseason and Lehner should've been pursued. Hard. The fact that they said there was no upgrades in net to be found in the offseason says a lot about their ability to evaluate the position.
It was clear Smith was done after his injury last year. Old, mediocre goalie coming off an injury was a recipe for disaster at the time and nothing has changed. I honestly think BT is too attached to Smith from their days in Arizona. Rittich should've been provided a goalie in his prime to learn from, not an old mediocre, injury prone goalie. Lehner has always had tons of potential and he was getting his head issues behind him, I honestly think teams were scared off due to the bipolar issue more than anything. It's 2019 ffs, you'd think the 'stigma' wouldn't play a role but I believe it did.
And I don't care that Smith was an all star last year. When he came back it was clear something was majorly wrong. Expecting it to magically go away was hoping against hope.
Just a frustrated fan, that's all. Sorry for the rant.

^ As Bax noted, Treliving has been in on goalies but for a variety of reasons he's had to settle for someone further down his list.
This summer, I would expect him to try again. And he should have cap space & picks at his disposal to get something done. We'll see what happens.

I agree, we've heard all sorts of reports over the years that Treliving has been all over player X or Y.
Sounds like the Flames were close to landing bishop at one point and maybe that was out of Tre's control.
But he's been the GM of the team since April 2014.
5 years is a long time to be big game hunting on a goalie without any trophy bucks mounted on the wall.

I recall Tre actively looking at:
Murray
Jones
MAF
Bishop
He’s fully aware of the situation at hand and the importance of the position. We will get a goalie this summer.

Andersen & Saros can be added to that list too.
He's been hesitant to throw currency at the position in years past, used it to fill gaps elsewhere. I don't see that being the case this summer. Again, we'll see.
