OK, as a fan would you rather the owners get $22 million dollars or keep a guy like Valimaki?

Vegas isn't closer. Arizona is the easternmost team in the current Pacific Division.

Through most of the NHL season, Arizona is on Mountain Time like Colorado and only an hour behind the rest of the Central Division. Vegas is always on Pacific time and would be two hours behind most of the teams in the Central.

Green+Yellow screams Seattle to me

Add in too much white and you enter North Star territory (and I don't think you ever shake it), but treat it as a distant tertiary and you get Seattle.

Apparently Seattle's mayor wants them to be called "The Krakens".
I wouldn't mind that. But again, that wouldn't really suit the red, white, and black colors.

If it's between Kraken, Cougars, Totems, and Seals, I'd say go with any of them except Cougars.

If they were smart, their primary color would be green.

When I see those Green and Gold colors, I immediately think Eskimos - On the other hand, they will be a division rival ergo nothing wrong with hating a division rival.

The NHL doesn’t owe fans anything so they are all about the money. Expansion isn’t for you; it’s for the franchise holders.

If they're going with red, I've actually had 'Kraken' at top of mind for that. There's an aggression with the Kraken that suits red very well.

I've had this Sockeye's concept in mind for Kraken since red was floated:

Honest question, why does the mayor has any say on what to name the team? Is the team going to be owned by the city?

The NHL makes nothing without fans so I think they kind of do. You are right about them not caring though. Doesn't mean I have to like it though as a fan.

No, but were I to own a sports franchise my least pressing concern would be the team's name and logo. I would think a would-be team owner would be primarily interested in endearing his franchise to the customers as transparently as possible, and passing along naming rights to the public is a great way to ensure that they take ownership, and in turn spend money. A number of sports franchises have taken this approach.

No, it doesn't mean you have to like it. I guess what I was saying is that the sooner fans realize that money trumps all then the disappointment gets easier to deal with.

The part of "The NHL makes nothing without fans" is moot. The NHL makes nothing without revenue. Hockey customers have shown that it doesn't matter what the NHL does; they'll go back to consuming once the puck drops.

In this case, the NHL is probably more concerned about the impact of expansion on their new fanbase in Seattle, and less so worried about you. How difficult a row to hoe has it been for those teams which scraped along for more than a decade for having to ice AHL quality rosters in the NHL? How seriously is your fan commitment in jeopardy if the Flames must lose a good player in this?
