Yup. Flames are playing well and they've generated some decent chances. But they need to find the back of the net soon before Smith lets in another stinker.

Smith sucks, but the Flames didn't generate much of anything. Pretty boring period TBH

Smith goal against was a 4 “Not so good”, close to. 5 “Dreadful” on the Haynes scale.

I like the idea though of Neal with Janko and Czarnik. Both are more playmakers that can get him the puck if he can figure out how to get to a good shooting position.

I personally don't think any line that has Hathaway and Ryan on it can called the 3rd line, ergo the Janko line would be #3 tonight imo.
But yeah they need to get going. This game needs more Czarnik.

Draft Pick

Look on the bright side, they are only trailing by one so far.
Honestly, why is Bill so set on Smith? Rittich 5-1, Smith 5-6-1....kind of basic math, no?

That's fine. But to say they don't "suck" at it right now is disingenuous given that they've had exactly one powerplay in their last seven periods of play.
A team can outshoot the other team in every game they play and finish 20-55-7. Even though they might've carried the play, I need results to say that they don't suck.

He was on the decline already but it appears the change in equipment has accelerated the end of his career.

Well when your goalie keeps giving up stinkers, it takes away confidence from the rest of the team. You can almost feel a collective sigh from a deflated team.

I guess the Flames are under the allusion that a 36 year old goalie with a sub .900 save percentage is worth starting over a 26 year old with a .935 save percentage and a 5-1 record. It's almost like it has to hit this team so hard in the face for them to make the most obvious decisions. Mike Smith is not an NHL starter, it's clear as day. He's just awful on home ice.

Bennetts cookie duster is the 1070's greasy cop duster.
Anderssons is like a sophisticated 1980's coke dealers.

The goal was bad but Monahan, Gaudreau and Hanifin all can't get beat in 3 seconds like that.
Habs seem to be getting the better chances so far.

I’m not too bent out of shape about that 1st period, they look hungrier than the Habs and I figured Smith would spot them at least a goal so meh, nothing to get too freaked out about yet.

7 in a row prior to last game. Let's be fair though, Andersson/Valimaki are legit right now. No need to rock the boat.

Was just going to post this. They both have the same number of wins but Smith has started twice as many games.
Why keep starting him???
That being said the Flames didn't generate a lot of offense that period. Very blah period.

My TOS (terrified of shots) rating is off the charts tonight. I literally cringe every time the puck appears to be headed in the general direction of mike smith. Even the most routine save looks hard for him.

Bennett-Ryan-Neal have been a better line than Bennett-Jankowski-Neal. Outside of Bennett/Lindholm both of whom we keep forcing as wingers, Ryan's been our third best C and a better center than Jankowski, even if he's not worth his salary.

Yeah I definitely agree, but the game should be 0-0. Instead the Flames are trailing due to having the worse goaltender.

Gotta think Stone needs a trade. He hasn't played badly when he's been in.
