Flames quality of opponent has been very high so far overall...their record is pretty impressive all things considered

Except for you know that 6-3-1 stretch in the last 10.

And in the middle of that stretch about the 3 worst games in a row this team could possibly play.

Thinking about it, this Smith bailout may do wonders for his confidence. Or performance. Based on what he has said, and reports from the “insiders”, I think Smith has excused his poor performance thus far this season based on the team not playing well in front of him defensively.

The crutch is gone. Gut check time for that guy.

It seems like the Flames have a better record against teams that are higher in the standings. Especially the western teams.

Let me get this straight, the Flames win a game with a crazy comeback. They take first in the Pacific and all you do is bring negativity in this thread? How? Enjoy the win!

This is what I'm hoping for. Not holding my breath, but it would be ideal if he gets back in a groove.

This. 11/14 games we've played were against teams currently sitting in a playoff spot, and one of the remaining 3 is the defending champ, who will inevitably rebound as the season goes on. That's a brutal schedule to open the season, no matter how you look at it.

Oh weird, when you sort the NHL app standings by conference it still shows them organized by division.

To make it 4-2 as well. That said I do think the goal was important.

Well the team bailed him out tonight and showed him they have his back.

He owes them now.

Likely one of the most undeserved "W" you will ever see a goalie get, but I am glad he got it.

Amazing comeback. Under the GG Flames, this ends 6-1 Avs.

sure but they scored 1 of 6 goals on the power play...didn't exactly cost them the game.

Really the Flames dominated, Smith made it a game

Yeah, I'm agreeing with you. After that goal it was still 4-2 and the Avs could have locked it down.

I didn’t even get to watch this game because I am in #### town, and was blown away by the comeback. Just wTched the highlights. Unreal.

But this is an 82 game season and, even as (die hard) fans of this team it is important to keep perspective. Pointing to the fact that we have 17 points as some sort of fake barometer of success is not helpful. We’ve played as many or more games than any team in the conference.

It’s a strawman.

This is a playoff team from the blueline out. I wasn’t sure pre season, but am now. And, as hard as I’ve been on smith (he’s been awful) I think he can be better. I think this game will make him better. It has to.

I missed the game, but saw the fight.
If Sam Bennett can bring that toughness and compete, along with the defensive awarenesses and hard forecheck every game, I can be happy, even if he never put up big points.
