Which brother did he fire? One of them that was a scout?

Not Brent, as Darryl resigned in 2010 and Brent coached until 2012.

Yeah. I'm not losing sleep over an athlete "not being thrilled" over losing ice time with the best player on the club. If the team thought it needed to be done, and didn't do it, that is not on Hamilton.

As an aside I thought Richie would have been a good player if not for the concussions. In the camp with him and Gio I thought he was better
Got that one wrong

I think some of the posters might be potentially confusing things with regards to this supposed personality or loaner mentality. I don't think Dougie irked a lot of teamates by going to museum's when on the road. Everybody on the road does different things. Some players visit family and friends in travel cities, some players golf on off days, some shop, some party, some sleep, some go to movies, some stay at the hotel and eat the team provided buffet meal and some go to expensive steakhouses.

We are talking about the NHL which is played in two different countries and with players from a huge variety of backgrounds but personally and culturally. I do think that if there were team specific events and he didn't show, that would rub some players the wrong way. He did appear to be at the Children's hospital events though? T

I think his laisssez faire attitude, especially after losses and especially after one of his boneheaded penalties led to a loss or a bad goal would drive a lot of guys NUTS, especially leadership and vocal guys like Gio, Smith and Versteeg come to mind. It's this type of personality that can drive other players and employees in general insane. Imagine your workplace and the guy who's always screwing up but walking around like nothing happened and hes the happy wanderer?? How do you feel? You will probably RESPECT the guy who says
" Ahh f*** my bad, I am sorry about that" every once in a while.

The situation with Freddie Hamilton could also be a MAJOR factor here as well, I don't see too many people taking too kindly to something like that on the roster.

In either event, I am sure he's going through his own emotions and I hope he enjoyed his time in Calgary and he continues to develop and have a good career in Carolina and elsewhere. Best of luck Dougie!

I think Flames management dug themselves a hole already when they decided to trade for Freddie Hamilton to have him as a 14th man on our roster every now and then. We shouldn't have acquired him from the start. We've always had better players/prospects than F. Hamilton. Him getting claimed by AZ made things worse in regards to the relationship between the Flames and Hamilton. Am I correct? Nope. Do I know anything about the situation? Not really. But I think F. Hamilton getting claimed by AZ played a huge factor in Dougie souring on the Flames and management.

I enjoyed his time here and everything he did for the city of Calgary. I think he has yet to play his best hockey and I think will do a hell of a job in Carolina where the spotlight doesn't occur as much. Best of luck to you Dougie and your future endeavors!
