This is ridiculous. Just pick a team and do it quietly. Reminds me of the Lebron James televised TV event for leaving Cleveland a few years ago.

Crap. Tampa might just get him. And I do think his addition would make them the clear cut cup favourites. I hate Tampa!

As long as he doesn't have a incredibly pretentious and lame televised event when he announces his choice I have no issue in what he's doing. It may be the biggest decision of his life to date.

To do it they’re going to have to jettison some pretty good players however. Would be a good opportunity to pounce.

Tampa getting him would be much better than San Jose getting him.

Plus as others have said, maybe we can snag a top 6 forward from them if they get JT.

Johnson, Palat, Killorn, Miller all were 0.57 to 0.71 points per game last season.

Except it's not even remotely close to that.

He definitely is holding up some big UFA fish and trades for some GM's. Depending on the team he picks there will most likely be some big trades to free up cap space, and a ton of secondary/tertiary options for GM's.

I just hope whoever Tre is looking at for our top 6 option he isn't going for anymore Brouwer/Frolik type players. We don't need a swiss army knife type of guy who can fit anywhere in the line up (I believe we just found him in Lindholm who as the potential to be more). We need a bonafied top 6, goal scoring, PP specialist. Skinner would have been a nice fit.. Makes me wonder if he could have been apart of the deal but veto'd it.

I wish hockey players had a sense of humour. If i was Tavares and i have made my decision to stick with the Isles i would wait a couple days before signing and wear a Leafs jersey around to get leafs nation crazy then next day announce im signing with the Islanders.

wouldn't even take that much. Just post a picture of his first class ticket to toronto.

When the media goes crazy he can say he was just heading home for holidays.

It would be hilarious though. I wonder if the leafs promised him the available captains C

Media circus would suggest otherwise. And announcing what is the equivalent to an RFP process and having presentations made to him is following in the same path.

So yes, to me, it is.

James made it public. Tavares hasn’t. The media leaked the list.

completely different though. Lebron drove that circus and orchestrated "the decision"

Tavares is quietly going about his due diligence and isn't creating the media hype. He's behind closed doors deciding where he wants to spend the next 7-8 years of his career.

I think Tampa has a great shot if hes considering leaving. He has probably the best shot at a cup there and will make around $6MM more on the length of his contract because of the tax structure.

I don't get why TOR, TBL and DAL are even on the list. Matthews, Stamkos and Seguin? Where does Tavares fit in there?

BOS (Bergeron), SJS (Pavelski) and NYI (Tavares) I can understand, but the first three have to just be there to drive up the $$$.

^^Toronto is realistic, not Tampa or Boston though. Dallas and San Jose can also fit him in. Most of the hockey press is saying NY or Toronto though.

Some noise about San Jose because of who they got rid of but it would be a very big move for a man like that with a young family.

Long Island is a great place to live and the access to the arena is ideal now that they are moving back from Brooklyn. The access to the new arena near Belmont Park will also be very convenient. There were questions about the team but I believe that has turned around in the last two months.

Because you're not allowed to have two star centres? I'm not sure I follow your logic. Why does he fit in Boston but not in Dallas? Bergeron is a better player than Seguin. Is it age?

For that matter, why does Pittsburgh keep playing with Crosby and Malkin??

Based on the taxes if I was him I'd be playing in Tampa. Good team, good weather and the most money, assuming their offer is competitive.

Why are TB and Boston unrealistic destinations? I expect all the teams making pitches have crunched the numbers and have contingencies in place to accommodate a franchise-altering player like Tavares.

...But I still think he returns to the Island.

John Tavares and his reps no longer plan to bring any additional teams into their free-agent process after meeting with Dallas and Tampa today.

The field is down to six: Leafs, Islanders, Sharks, Bruins, Stars and Lightning. #TavaresWatch
