Dave Cameron and Desjardins don't have the same resume in my mind.
The problem with coaches and coaching staffs is you never really know who ran what, at least in most cases you don't.
Was last year's powerplay all on Cameron? Or did Gulutzan get involved and it still suffered? Did Gulutzan get involved too late and that was his downfall?

I think almost everyone would be happy were the Flames to add MacLean, but I don’t understand why people like Todd Nelson for the job. Also, I have not seen anything beyond a single poster’s speculation that Tippett could be added. I am fairly confident that would not happen.

GG ran the show. I suspect even if he let Cameron handle PP duties he still had the final word and whether he did or didn't get involved it was on his shoulders.
Now we'd consider bringing in the guy he patterned himself after who doesn't seem to have much success in the departments we'd want him running?
Just doesn't make much sense to me.
MacLean is a guy that, much like Peters, has a background working with Babcock and thus seems more likely to me based on that circle of association.

I do get where people are coming from, but I just wouldn't risk it. Even in the AC role.

Willie is probably not the guy who is coming in as his was just a name thrown out by one of the guys on the radio in a "what about this guy?" scenario. It was just for the sake of discussion.
Let's say the do hire Willie. Are they bringing him in to coach the PP? Then we're potentially in the same territory as hiring Dave Cameron. Cameron was fired as head coach from Ottawa in large part due to a horrible powerplay then brought into Calgary and given the responsibility of running the PP. Willie didn't have a good PP when he was head coach in Vancouver... so I can see concern. We don't know what Willie would handle if he was the assistant coach.

it's Both.
Its typically the assistants job to run the powerplay , of course the coach should have input.. BP has already said that he will always carry the final say but lets his assistants do their job otherwise.
The end call falls on the head coach because if the AC is messing it up its his job to either fix it or fix/fire the guy that runs it .
GG failed by not firing Cameron when it was obvious we were useless . and based on the season he had no answers on how to fix it himself
Cameron came in with a good track record, except his teams always had bad powerplays.. I just dont want to see us take that same chance again

And the big irony here , is the Oilers are putting GG in charge of the PP

Not much more to add, nor is it earth shattering. They have both assistants hired now. Peters had to be back in Calgary today, suspected to announce. However they did say tomorrow was possible to for the announcement.

^^Been thinking about this a lot lately. I am going to take a wait and see but
we seem to be leaning a lot on the above.

My guess is MacLean for the forwards and PP and Huska for the defense and PK.

The last time Calgary had an epic mustache on the bench they did OK.

I believe you are incorrect. (I assume you are talking about Lanny?)
The last time the Flames had an epic mustache on the team they crashed and burned hard.

Apparently Todd Nelson is going to Dallas, so it’s not him.
Edit: wow a bit slow on that one!
