Just listened to a podcast from yesterday with Patrick O'Sullivan on the NHL network, boy he didn't hold back.
Said Burrow's used to make fun of him for being abused as a kid. Told Tootoo his brother made the right choice by committing suicide and asked him how the gun tasted. Makes fun of guys who have lost family members to cancer.
Patrick admitted it was personal and said he even wanted to fight him in public but he refused.
Wow, what a scumbag.

Wow, I knew he mocked Tootoo for drinking but hadn't heard that before.
That's beyond words.
There is just no defending this piece of trash. A deplorable excuse for a human being.

well there's your answer about how a team can go from eastern conference finals straight to the basement in less than a year. they rely on him for his character. I can barely even type that out without bursting into laughter.

1) kneeing someone in the back of the head is a serious no-no. I would've liked to see more than 10 games. IMO That's as bad as swinging a stick at someone's head
2) this video also exemplies why we need the instigator rule. Hall makes a borderline hit. Burrows chases a skilled player around the ice, cross checking him and jabbing him in the face. Even without the kneeing, I don't want that type of 'self enforcement' in the NHL.

On item 2: I have no issues with people who want hockey to return to the "old" days where it was a war between two teams, because they enjoyed watching that more. However, to justify it as policing is ridiculous. This is the first (maybe second if you include the Marchand one) incident like this in a year. That is nothing compared to what the NHL used to be with enforcers or the instigator rule in the 80s or 90s. Bench clearing brawls were common place with 1 linesman and 2 referees trying to separate 10 or more fights, the liberties take there are nothing compared to this. Alternatively, do you think a nuclear deterrent like McGratton on the ice would make Burrows think twice? The reality is that a 10 or 20 game suspension(and the associated $$$ loss) affects these guys far more than the "fear" of a legitimate fighter going after them. A couple hundred thousand, may not be much of the lifetime earnings of Burrows, but every break and every lost cash flow is another step toward ending his career earlier with less money.

I have been listening to TSN 1040 here in Vancouver all day, and interestingly enough most of the talking heads out here are pretty apoplectic about the length of Burrows's suspension, especially relative to rad Marchand's recent five-game infraction. It is surprising that so many of them seemed to believe that Burrows would have a good case for appeal.

Given that it had no resemblance to a hockey play at all, I think ten games was an easy call.
If Hall had been injured, 15-20 would have been more appropriate.

I always knew that Burrows crossed the line - but I forgave those transgressions as he was a key member of a team that I cheered for. However at the same time if what O'Sullivan said is true about Tootoo (which it may not be, as O'Sullivan seems to hold a pretty extensive grudge against the entire city) then that is completely unacceptable.

I listened to it twice, I didn't want to put words in his mouth.
But like he said, it was personal. He also said the only ones supporting Burrows are Vancouver fans who hide behind their Twitter accounts.
I have no reason to doubt what O'Sullivan said, pretty despicable stuff from Burrows.

Why would you doubt what O'Sullivan said about Burrows?
Burrows has a long and lengthy history of acting like a complete tool.
From this to biting, to publicly crying about a ref grudge, to knocking out some teenage kids teeth in a ball hockey game.
When so much crap follows a guy around, it takes a huge leap of logic to assume that terrible things said about him are inaccurate.

Burrows should be called out on that stuff. It's pretty much bullying and we don't allow it anywhere else.

Hey, Mark Spector is going to miss Alex Burrows...
I will tell you as a reporter who spent a fair deal of time around those Canucks, he is a personable, engaging guy. On the ice, he’d say things that are borderline sick. Off the ice? Can’t think of many I’d want to have beers with ahead of Burrows.
It’s that on-ice quality that causes a skill player like Hall to crank Burrows with a hard, clean check when the opportunity arose the other night in Ottawa. If not for some indiscretion Burrows had carried out on Hall, then for something Burrows was going to do later. Or that he had done over the years to a teammate of Hall’s.
Burrows is like a bank account. When get a chance to make a deposit, you make it.
The bank is closed for 10 games now, and soon to be aged 37, I can’t imagine there are very many more transactions left.
When he is gone, some will cheer. Not me, though.
I’m in the story telling business, and few players in my time gave us more material than Alex “The Heel” Burrows.
