So I guess there isn't any benefit to winning these things anymore? Like you don't get points for your team and get to choose who you play or anything?
... I guess that figures, getting to pick your opponent was actually kind of fun. Can't have that sort of thing in the NHL.

Why do they have to force McDavid into acting in stuff? Awful.

I doubt you'll see a trio that doesn't have a defenseman.

I just realized Barzal isn't in this. How is Barzal not in this? The guy's a freaking video game. If you want to entertain people that seems like a bit of a no brainer. This league has no idea how

That was terrible marketing for the league, Subban was the only part actually entertaining, the new comps are way too hard and not nearly enough fun

It’d be hard to do a 15 second recap like newscasts like to do, and have some “signature” clip from tonight. No Jagr mullets this year, or
Voracek and JG etc.
Maybe PK throwing the glove on the breakaway.
But pretty stale for the NHL in trying to get some coverage of this....nothing to cover.

I finally had a chance to watch the skills competition and the NHL has really ruined it. The new puck control was weak, the target shooting was stupid and gimmicky, passing was decent and I still somewhat prefer the shoot out competition instead of the save challenge.

I don't know why there isn't a shootout goals competition that happens together with the goalie challenge. Like each division has 3 shooters who go 3 times each. I guess its unlikely no one player emerges the winner and then you have an endless tiebreaker.
Not sure what to do to make this more interesting. The hardest shot, fastest skater and hitting targets in fewest shots are actually cool competitions that have occasionally produced memorable results. Rest is pretty gimmicky.

Every time the NHL changes the rules, it eliminates comparing current players with past ones. If the league doesn't care about past players' accomplishments in the skills competition, then it's in tough to sell that anyone will care about this later to the fans.

They obviously don't care about this because they still count Dylan Larkin's fake "fastest skater record". Also, the puck skills relay thing Johnny won tonight has gone through so many variations that there was no comparing it anyway. I don't know, did they move the spot where the hardest shot is taken from? Probably; and that would affect results. Probably the only thing with some integrity over the years was the accuracy shooting, and obviously that's gone now, with five targets.
