The Lightning block bloody everything. Had some good chances negated by good blocks.

Very good period imo, Lightning will get their chances but luckily Smith is playing well.

Looked like Stamkos got a nice block on the shot. Can't blame Backlund for that.

No way we win this game if this keeps up. We are getting outclassed big time. Need to be way better.
I don’t see the Flames being outclassed that period.

Not at all.

Yeah, if Smith has been this good in Arizona for a while, I know I personally underrated him, along with many others.

I like that in the period recap snet only shows the celebration after the goal when I missed it and didn't have it on PVR but manage to put several plays by the lightning in there.

Well that's about as good a road period as you could ask for against the best team in the league. Tampa started taking over a bit near the end of the period, but thankfully Smith is in god mode.

However, if the Flames try and sit back to protect this lead, they're gonna be in trouble. We need to get back on the forecheck, get in hard on TB's D, and get more pucks on net.

Good period for the Flames. Tampa is going to get some offensive zone time but we had some extended shifts in their zone as well.

I'd like to see us limit the slot a bit more going forward. This Tampa team is really good, people shouldn't be upset they've had chances tonight.

Say what you will about Smith: Age, odometer, inconsistent etc etc.

Now that we're starting into the second half of the season, this is the first time in awhile that he's going to be playing some pretty meaningful games.

Im willing to bank on him.

Well, the main thing I see Yotes fans say about him is he was invincible for stretches, then he'd get into cold streaks and look horrible and they'd lose nonstop. With us, I think it's fair to say we've seen a couple of those little colder stretches, but our team can pull through for him, and being much deeper than the recent Coyotes teams, it's allowed Smith to get back on track faster, rather than the team going into a free fall.

His shooting is abysmal this year. No other way to put it. Everything else is there but he's really got to work on finishing, and even getting his shots on target.

After the first period, calgary has 1-0 lead on the road versus the best team in the league...

i'll take that result versus being down 1 goal and outplaying TB

The Flames’ best period in their last four games has been the second. This bodes well for us.
