The refs have been so inconsistent not only in our games, but throughout the NHL. I've seen more garbage calls in 1/4 of the season than any other season.

Sorry, my original tweet was looking at the wrong part of the sequence. Matthew Tkachuk definitely spears Matt Martin from the bench during that scrum.

I would agree with you thinking that they can improve on how they play with him to take better advantage and think if done right would better allow them to improve on their mobility. I think his assessment goes entirely in the wrong direction, and also glosses over other issues they have on D which are not related at all to Smith... unless of course Smith is teaching them when/not to pinch, how to be more like a pylon etc...
Do the Flames practice goalie to D breakouts? Doesn't seem like it but they should. At least several times a game Smith could easily be the first pass out of the zone, or to a forward heading up the ice. But most often I see Smith firing the puck around the boards because the D especially don't seem to know where to be.

Fined? He'll get suspended for that if it gets reviewed.

Yeah I have wondered this myself and would agree that would be so much better to see. Once in an occasion you see it but the boards up to the forward certainly seems to be the most common result. I also don't like how the forwards tend to sit and wait on the puck rather then move towards it which often leads to a turn over.
