Surely you jest, thinking that your (as a CP poster) view of players, your information on them, is the same as the coaches'? I mean, they're with the players almost every day, talking with them, etc. And you?

Practice, the locker room, the film study, the one on one talks....
I expect Jankowski will get a fair amount of NHL time and at both wing and centre. But it's not like he has a body of NHL work like those he is competing against. When you look at a guy like Stajan, management and coaches have 950 or so NHL games as his track record. So a mediocre camp is a factor, but so is his history and his trend. Jankowski has potential and a great camp. But at the moment that's all.
I think Jankowski is not in danger of being sent down. They are trying to figure out what to do with Lazar.
Gaudreau Monahan Ferland
Tkachuk Backlund Frolik
Versteeg Bennett Jagr
Stajan Jankowski Brouwer
Lazar + Glass/Hathaway/Hamilton (who cares, really)
Gio Hamilton
Brodie Hamonic
Bart Stone
Kulak
Smith Lack
That's 23.

Practice, training work ethic, off ice habits, personality and interaction with teammates.
As fans because we don't and can't see these things, there is no value to us. Yet they still matter to the coaching staff that actually make the decisions given their day to day observations and wealth of in house statistics/analysis.
Edit: An article by Jason Bourne on The Athletic touched on some things on this.
Included things like having respect of teammates, holding others accountable and making them better. Being in the right position and achieving the expectations set upon them.

Really only need Freddy to slip on Dougie's newly waxed floors, tweak his knee and be on LTIR, and all problems are solved.

Everything.
They not just see tons more, I'm suggesting they are better at evaluating that information than the rest of us.
After all, they are professionals.

Christ Almighty, does it really warrant an explanation on why coaches might have a better idea of player abilities than fans?
Is there a post more indicative, more illustrative about a posters cluelessness than that? Why even bother?

See, this is the problem some posters and fans have.
We aren't there every day, we don't see every practice, we don't talk to the players, we don't know if they are sick or have a lingering injury, we don't know if they are emotional basket cases, we aren't all lawyers or accountants with expertise in salary cap law, circumvention and rules, we don't know how the coaches plan to implement their lines vs. team X,Y,Z, we don't know how the waiver wire rules play into upcoming options for the G.M....and I''m sure many more I can't think of right now.
So, in a nutshell, they see a heck of a lot more than we do.
I see others beat me to it but I'm leaving it.

I miss Ricardo's Cartman avatar, reading his posts in a Cartman voice was fantastic. Now that its Clint Eastwood, it just doesn't work.

Well. Flames assign Gazdic to Stockton but no mention of Hathaway according to the Tanner Glass press release.
So Flames have 15 forwards right now including both Hathaway and Jankowski.

So we're sitting with 7 guys for the 4th line (and the extra)?
Glass, Hamilton, Hathaway, Jankowski, Lazar, Stajan and Brouwer?
Treliving has some work to do.
