I've read a lot of takes on LP, but this is one I need to ask about.
The album right after Minutes to Midnight(where What I've Done was on) was "A Thousand Suns". That album is a a Complete, with a capital C, 180 in terms of style from what they had done previous. It was a very experimental album and totally went against the LP norm from the early years.
They also released One More Light in 2017 which is basically a pop album with very little rock to it.
So I'm very curious what you're hearing to suggest that everything after What I've Done sounds like a different version of that song?
Yeah, I mean I did kind of fade away from LP after that stint of music I posted cuz it just seemed to me every new song sounded like it was from a Transformers soundtrack. So admittedly I didn't listen to any full albums since then and haven't really been a fan of their hits since so...yeah just my 2 cents. Maybe I'll give that album a shot.
Been thinking about this for a while and I'm honestly still unsure about all of this. It really is a damn shame about the Scientology and Masterson allegiations ... they are definitely tainting the whole thing for me and it's something that is hard to look past. Is it enough for me to outright dismiss their new music with Armstrong? That's a more difficult question for me. I don't think I could ever completely separate the artist from the art, but where do you draw the line? It was easy for me to completely drop Rammstein because of Lindemann, but still unsure about this.
I would be much more enthusiastic about new LP music without those allegations for sure. I like Armstrongs voice a lot (Dead Sara's released some decent stuff as well) and the new song is just good enough to keep me somewhat interested (granted, it's a very safe choice for a new single). You'd imagine LP did vet her before choosing her, so I just wonder where they really land on all of this. I wish they had chosen someone without that kind of baggage, that's for sure.

I always wondered about this.
Whats the process here? Is it like...she gets measured and weighed or something? Or more like a 'Dragon's Den' kind of vibe with Mike Shinoda sitting across the room with a clipboard?
Is there a service? Like a Temp Agency?
"Yeah we need a new lead singer.'
- "Certainly sir! Coming right up sir! And if you dont like her or she dies we have several more in stock!"

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.
I looked it up and that was his real name. Chester Charles Bennington.
I was resisting posting in this thread because I wasn't really a fan of their music. I didn't hate it, but it never really connected with me either. It just seemed like another run-of-the-mill commercial act capitalizing on a sound that was popular for that time period, and they nailed it. Nothing wrong with that.
If the music connected with some people at a higher level, I can respect that. I probably just didn't "get it". I can also respect the other members of the band wanting to keep going and finding a new singer. There is obviously still a market and audience for them, so why not.

I hate that. If someone doesnt like a particular type of music, its likely not because they didn't "get it" but more that it just didnt connect with them personally.
I dont think it necessarily needs to be as deep as people make it, but Linkin Park was the soundtrack of my younger life for quite some time.
And I think a lot of us are like that with music. How do you connect with it?
Like when you see guys in Metallica or Iron Maiden shirts.
There would be an interesting list...what is the first album you ever bought?
Me? Green Day's Kerplunk! And they're still my favourite band.

and that's pretty much it for a lot of people. Doesn't have to be deeper than this, just hit a nerve when you were a teenager at the time and it's why so many people hold "Hybrid Theory" and "Meteora" in such high regard.

Yeah. And I'll maintain that those were FANTASTIC albums. I still love them.

Meteora is as 10/10 as an album gets. I'd argue it's a slight elevation from HT which was a solid 9, only due to not being not as polished as their subsequent work.
There are many who only recognize Faint as a track that stuck with them from that record, but the whole album is deeply enjoyable and flows extremely well.
I go back and forth, both records are amazing. I would probably give "Hybrid Theory" the slight nod, but "Somewhere I Belong" might be my favourite song of them all.
Also really enjoyed the previously unreleased "Meteora" B-sides that were released last year.

Reminds me of this YouTuber Hip Hop fan reacting to Linkin Park.
"Hey white buddy in high school with your hood up in the corner, I see you now."
As an aside there's a few YouTubers that do these types of videos and it's fun to watch people discover a new type of music they love.

Watched this live a couple nights ago. Love the set list. Thought Emily did well and better than the first performance from the production studio. She seemed a lot more comfortable. Band was having fun and that was great to see. Crowd had great energy.
Her best performance of an old LP song for me is definitely “Lost”, but they only play a shortened version of it here. “My December” is great as well.
Everyone(in the LP fan world that is) was waiting to see if she could pull off the massive scream in “Given Up” and then consensus is that she did “not bad”. Everyone was comparing her there to Chester’s 17 second scream from 15 years ago and that’s not fair. Chester wasn’t holding that scream that long for many years before he died.
Yeah that's a pretty strong performance from the group and her in particular. I'm impressed. They sound good.
I hope they can work out the issues around Chester's son and Emily. Hopefully she's genuine in her statements and makes an effort to make amends with the fans/people who aren't happy. There will always be a disgruntled contingent but for those like me, we're just here for the music and if they put on a show like that I'll probably spend the money to go and enjoy those old hits live.
