Can't wait for the horror of doing all this again in 2-5 years.

I highly doubt that.

Now that we're here, I don't think Vegas will take as many goalies as I originally expected. The problem is that if they do, they kind of kill their own trade market.

If they are sitting on half a dozen goalies, all of which are NHLers, they are basically hooped because they have to move them. They can't hold on to more than two, or three at the very most.

So the value of those goalies would plummet. If they have to move 3 or 4 goalies, the other GMs are going to offer them peanuts.

For Treliving, getting Smith prior to the expansion draft may well have been a shrewd move. If he hadn't, he would need a goalie, and Vegas could play hardball. Now, he isn't desperate, and if Vegas ends up with a bunch of tenders, he may be able to grab one on the cheap.
I only think they take goalies for two reasons:

1. They take ones they plan on keeping
2. They take a goalie if another team asks them to, and the value they get from that team is worth more to Vegas than another player they can take from that team.

I don't think they take any goalies unless they plan keeping them or have a trade for that goalie already worked out with a 3rd team.

No? Not with an odd number of teams and more than a couple cities looking good for expansion or relocation?

I could see it.

He's actually my 2nd choice. I think Kulak is tempting for Vegas because he is still young and can be a good offensive defenseman. I think he is ready to be in the NHL. With Wideman gone next season, I am sure Kulak will be in #6 or #7 D.

I believe they are required to take 3 goalies.

Those would be the ones they keep. Probably will select a vet starter, a young back up with starter potential, and decent prospect goalie that they can send to the minors without waivers.

1. MAF
2. Grubauer
3. Ullmark

..for example.

With a now young team with a fair bit of potential I can see that draft being a lot more painful.

I wonder how much this experience will affect the wording and availability of future NMC on contracts.

Way rather re-sign stone and keep our pick, this team needs to continue to build within.

Gaunce...

The draftee that hasn't been able to crack the Nucks lineup for the last 5 years. That Gaunce.

I hope LV takes Desharnais from EDM. Just so we can laugh at them flipping Davidson for nothing.

But for real, LV has some great selection to pick from. They could assemble a decent roster, particularly on the defense side.

Huh? He played like 90% of his games last year in the NHL. He was only drafted 5 years ago, just like Jankowski. Mid-late first rounders often take 5-6 years to make the NHL, nothing unusual there. Are you suggesting he sucks because of that?

It was more of the "may be a more appealing asset than anything the Flames left exposed". 5 assists in 50+ games and a healthy scratch throughout a ton of games on one of the worst teams in the league. Not much for appealing there.

So yes. He sucks.

I understand what you're saying. But he's a young centre with upside and there isn't a wealth of centres available for Vegas. So yes given his position, youth and upside I'd say he's as valuable or moreso than anything the Flames exposed.

The horror? Yeah this is so awful. I hope you'll be OK.

Maybe there should be something like this every year for teams that miss playoffs and then radically change entry draft rules.

Everything in context, we get it. Relax. It's a hockey forum.
