Ferland goes around and throws some hits and makes the Ducks hear skate blades on ice, but he doesn't need to throw 20 hits a game to be effective.
I actually remember Sutter doing it. First in Calgary and then in LA.

Send them out there ready to eat raw meat. Hit everything for the first 10 minutes. Introduce them to hell and then continue to pound away at them.

Ferland's problem is that hes an 'on/off switch' kind of guy. If hes sent out as a wrecking ball he'll do it, but that isnt conducive to the rest of the team's game.

You pound them off the opening whistle, you continue to pound them and then you pick your spots.

Sometimes having your opponent wondering if they're going to get hit is more productive than actually hitting them.

Oh memories. I remember I skipped school in Grade 9 to get tickets. Sat alone in the 300's because no friends were hard enough to skip class. Pretty rowdy crowd for a kid but I remember them being awesome. One group of party animals even bought me nachos

Worry about Round 2 when we get there!

I hope Ferly cranks it up to at least 75% of Ferklund. He has to remember, he is more than a 4th liner now. We need him shooting the puck and creating space out there for Johnny and Mony.

He can't be spending time in the penalty box with the likes of Bieksa and Thompson. That should be Brouwer and Bouma's job now!

For some reason, I just have this vision of Bennett and Kesler dropping the gloves off the face off in Game 3 with Bennett specifically asking GG to start him opposite Kesler for the opening faceoff.

This is, imo, undoubtedly the most solid lineup the Flames have iced for a playoff game since '06 at least and possibly even since' 04

I hope Ferland cranks it to 100%. He doesn't take a lot of penalties. He hits hard and clean. He has shown that he can raise the intensity of his game and still stay within the rules. He is at the line but that is excellent. I suspect Tkachuk may be the one who needs a bit of restraint in his first playoff games.

I just think of the Oilers flying around in the first period hitting everything in sight , taking penalties, and potting a couple of goals in the process. That's not really their game and once the Sharks took advantage of one of the penalties they settled down and took the route of puck possession over trying to beat the bully. I really think the Flames have to focus on winning the puck battles and leave the other stuff to the Ducks. I have no issues with players finishing their checks but running around trying to punish them isn't the Flames game and it's not going to work against a team that's better conditioned to play chippy hockey.

I think it comes down to players playing within their games.

Brouwer, Tkachuk, Ferland, Bouma, Engelland can play physical but it is a part of what usually makes them successful within their own skill sets.

But Monahan, Bennett, Gaudreau, Backlund, etc can't get lured into that game. They need to stick to their skilled game against the Ducks.

Play within their own roles and skill sets and everything will be fine.

Agree mostly, but Bennett doesn't seem to suffer when he ramps up the physical game. His game has actually picked up IMO since he started hitting (and fighting).

I'm fine with Bennett upping his physical game. Its partly what he was advertised as before the draft. A #### disturber. One thing he isn't very good at though is fighting. Those were fun scraps to watch, but that was also alot of flailing and a lot of dodged bullets when it comes to injury.

Default WCQF | Game 1: Ducks v. Flames | Honda Center | CBC | 8:30 PM

11 pm here and I'm pumped. Couldn't care less about the friggin Honda Curse. It's not like this old timer team is unbeatable. And I can't replace the "I-don't-know-how-to-toast-a-bread" picture from my head. Is that the guy with the master plan? Hell no. We will win this. Let's make this to "The Disneyland After Dark" series. And, please, let me bring another beer.

Let's go Flames!

(If... Sorry - WHEN we beat this disgusting Ducks I will tattoo a flaming C on my right upper arm)

Game 1! Time to make some history! Huge two points!

Goals will win you some games but defence will win you championships. Hope the team plays a strong, disciplined game and Moose is locked in. GFG!

P.S. Love the international content. Well done CP

In 2015, I sat in a booth in the Boston Pizza on 17th Ave. wearing my David Jones jersey watching the Flames take on the Canucks in Game 1. Jones scored the first Flames goal of the playoffs and the Flames won.

Tonight, I sit in the same booth in the same restaurant on 17th wearing my Micheal Ferland jersey watching the Flames take on the Ducks in Game 1. Man, do I want to see the same result.
