The Calgary Flames announced today that they have acquired defenceman Michael Stone from the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for Calgary's third round pick in 2017 and a conditional fifth round pick in '18.
Stone, a third round pick (69th overall) by the Coyotes in the 2008 NHL Draft, has played 45 games for Arizona this season and registered nine points (1G, 8A) and 12 PIMs. The 26-year-old spent four seasons with the Calgary Hitmen of the WHL, before starting his NHL career where he has played 324 games for the Coyotes and recorded 96 points (24G, 72A) and 190 PIMs.
Another great trade by Tre. Giving up a third in a weak draft for a guy who can play top 4 minutes with Brodie for the rest of the season, and if things go well I can see a nice cheapish deal in the offseason. If he can regain his play that he had before his surgery this is a great deal and gives us some much needed depth for the rest of the season.Don't know if he will be the guy I want as the no.4 man for the future but he has lots of games to prove his worth. Bringing in Bart and Stone are low risk moves that could have very nice pay offs.
Thinking Wideman will be more than sheltered. I think he hits the press box more often than not for the rest of the year.
Maybe he will, but why do people think this? He got played above a number of players all season long. Why would they all of a sudden leap frog him in the rank order?
I just hope this move and any other pending moves results in a playoff spot but we will see what transpires. Nothing worse than giving up picks to bring in players and have it not work out. The best thing you can do is try so we will see how the chips falls.
Its going to be a busy 10 days going forward both schedule wise and potential moves for us and our competitors.
To make room on the roster, only Hathaway and Bennett can be sent to Stockton without clearing waivers.
If there's any team interested in making a deal for Jokipakka, I assume they won't risk putting him on waivers. Bartowski would likely clear since he was in the AHL all season until last week anyway.
Regardless of who's sent down, because the roster limit is lifted after the trade deadline, the demotion would only need to be for a little over a week.

Hopefully it is because they have been showcasing Wideman, but now realize that they can no longer afford to.
If the coaching staff is dead set on their Left-Right pairings, this trade forces Wideman to the pressbox because he's not going to play ahead of Hamilton, Stone and Engelland.

Calgary Flames, PLEASE GO TO THE NET! AND SHOOT THE PUCK! GENERATING OFFENSE IS NOT DIFFICULT! SKATE HARD, SHOOT HARD, CRASH THE NET HARD!
The Flames' website shows him with #26, which would be a kick in the nuts to Wotherspoon to just give away his number like that (although, they did that to Vey after the preseason when Versteeg was signed).
Of course, it could just be a remnant of the trade and his number on the website is just the same as what he wore in Arizona until his new number is confirmed.
He wore #28 with the Hitmen, and that number is currently unassigned on the Flames (he might have to fight Regehr for it, though).

Corey Potter wore #28 in his short stint with the Flames. It's currently Poirier's NHL number.
