Yet looked fine, even great at the World Cup and All Star Game. What gives?
Such a far cry from the guy that took the team on his back on a lot of nights the past 1-2 seasons.

It's a lot easier to dangle and make nice passes when players aren't slashing you and throwing as many body checks.

Not to mention the speed his team played with. Now he's playing with slower players like Brouwer & Chiasson

Why is it that when I watch the game at home alone the Flames play awesome (e.g. Pittsburgh game, Minnesota game) but when I am in a bar or restaurant with Oilers fans the Flames get smoked??? Argh this team does not make it easy to be a die hard fan.

Any comments from the players about last night besides Gio's tired BS?
Really interested about hearing how Gaudreau feels about his play this season.

Nothing, but Wideman is skating with Kulak this morning. He feels horrible about how he played to deserve this treatment.
Kulak, I mean.

at this point I have to believe Wideman getting the minutes he's getting is an organizational directive.
There's no other explanation.

If I was BB I'd persuade (/pressure) Brad into talking to Julien and looking at moving GG to an assistant position, and flipping the captain at the deadline for younger D prospects.
This coaching staff and leadership has run it's course and I've just about seen enough to expect that anything's going to change continuing on what's clearly a leaking ship.
Retool the rebuild and get a motivator behind the bench.

Uh, what if Julien doesn't want to come here?
What if the reason the Flames continue to hire retreads has beens and never was' is because the organization can't attract top candidates?
What if the reason the Flames couldn't get a decent GM for 20 years is the same reason they haven't had a decent coach save someone named Sutter in the same time period?

JC (as in jesus christ) they're not going to fire a coach just past the halfway point of his first season. Especially after firing a Adam's trophy candidate who's still getting paid.
Its not going to happen, it makes no sense, its not a video game.
Julian is not going to come here, he's the most sought after coach in the league right now and we have an expansion team coming into play as well. I can see that conversation
"Hey Mr Julian its BB, we want you to come and coach the Flames"
"hmm, didn't you just hire a coach at the start of the year"
"Yeah but we're not in a playoff position right now and the fans are upset so blammo here I am calling you"
"Yeah, so your unstable franchise run by crazy people. Pass"
I doubt that GG gets fired in the off season, NHL teams aren't in a vacuum and if you start playing Russian roulette with coaches, what do you think the chances are of getting any kind of coach with any kind of pedigree are?

The problem is, playing Wideman more actually hurts his value.

I know this was way earlier in the thread, but please tell me this can't possibly be true. There is no universe, current or parallel, where this can possibly be viewed as OK. I would sooner believe that Gulatzan is actually an Oilers-paid saboteur than this being accurate.
I am about the furthest thing from a hockey expert, but I have arrived at the point where I believe that any defenseman in Stockton could screw up less than Wideman. By this I mean any player playing on our AHL affiliate or any individual (adult or child) who has picked up a hockey stick in their life and at one time or another resided in Stockton.
I can't watch Wideman on the ice anymore. It's like waiting for someone you love to be punched in the face, and you're helpless to stop it.

I don't see why Julien wouldn't come here. Maybe 5-10 teams are in the market for a coaching upgrade.
Right now, despite being a pretty lousy team, this young core has shown to be able to make the playoffs and is currently a bubble team. Not to mention the Flames are also consistent spenders to the cap and are a top hockey market.
Julien doesn't care about the future of GG, he cares about himself and the position he could be in to win championships. You think he wants to coach the Islanders, with their arena and owner meddling troubles? Arizona, who's a budget team?
I think Calgary has just as good of a chance as any club

What if Calgary is really Edmonton?

Also, its up to management to go out and acquire top talent. No excuses. If they can't do it they need to find someone who can.

Calgary has it's share of owner meddling problems which, in my opinion, is a significant reason they have struggled to fill managerial and coaching positions with top flight candidates.
Then, there are non-hockey related issues like Calgary being in the western conference and Julien only ever having coached in the east going back to his days in the Q. Family. Other business interests outside the game. Housing.
Lots of reasons to not select Calgary that have nothing to do with hockey. Lots of reasons to not select calgary that have everything to do with hockey.
