The red snake continues to rise. With a 7-3-1 record in their last 11 games, the Flames are 5.610 points below the black line, and the red snake is 2 points above the purple snake. If the Flames continue the pace of the last 11 games, they will finish with 101 points. The Flames need a 1.27 PPG average over the last 55 games in order to hit 96 points.
The green snake will now take a seven game vacation from moving. It loses the next 8, with the eighth game being an OTL for a single point. This is where the red snake can really gain some ground on the green snake and the black line. The purple snake is currently 3 games into a 7 game win streak, so the red snake needs to string some wins together to stay above it.
The next eight games on the schedule are:
vs. Anaheim (12-8-4)
at Dallas (9-10-6)
at Arizona (8-11-3)
vs. Winnipeg (11-13-2)
vs. Tampa Bay (13-11-1)
vs. Columbus (13-5-4)
at Arizona (8-11-3)
at San Jose (15-9-1)

In honour of the green snake starting its 8 game losing streak, and the Flames going 8-3-1 in their last 12 games, the red snake rises with an 8-3 win. The Flames decided to honour Gaudreau returning to the lineup by matching his jersey number to their wins and losses, and his points in tonight's game to the OTLs, as they now have a 13-13-2 record.
The red snake remains two points above the purple snake, is now eight points below the green snake, and 4.780 points below the black line. This is the closest the red snake has been to the black line since the conclusion of game #13 (a theme tonight), when they were 4.220 points below the black line.

I had to make the bright blue snake hollow, as the orange snake kept jumping on top of it. The orange snake has remained below the black line for the last five games, its new longest streak of the year. It is 2 points above the blue snake, 9 points above the purple snake, and 0.610 points below the black line.

"I am actually more excited for the Oilers game tomorrow than the Flames game. I am praying for multiple jersey tosses. The Oilers are my new favourite team for all the wrong reasons. I hate them so much I love them."
Have you considered making the black line on your chart variable? While 96 points gives a team a very high probability of making the playoffs given historical precedence, it does not guarantee a playoff spot.
However, if the black line represented the points extrapolation of the 8th team in the conference or the 3rd team in the division (which ever is lower), that would be more commensurate with a "guarantee" as every team that finishes 8th or higher is guaranteed a playoff spot (or 3rd in the division or higher).
It would more accurately portray the "playoff chase" rather than a "chase to 96 points", especially this year where there may be some fall off.
Anyhow, it would be a neat visual as the snake fights to get to and stay above the line - and that line could change every single day.
As of today (for example), the black line could be at 88 points (commensurate with the 8th best PPG of 1.08 currently owned by Nashville).
