I'm not mad at all, it just doesn't make sense (Versteeg in that spot, rather than Tkatchuk out)

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

I like how there is competition for that spot now.

Before it was

Ferland
Chiasson
Brouwer (was unlikely due to Chemistry with Bennett)

Now, Versteeg, Ferland and Chiasson will battle it out and have to maintain it..

The good news is Johnny and Monny are used to that right side being a revolving door so they should be able to play with anyone.

Many Edmonton insiders speculated the Oilers were trying to sign him, so "Oilers cast off" probably not a valid description

So what do you think this signifies for the Flames, that they are thinking of placing Ferland on the top line and Versteeg on the 4th?

It's because it makes no sense. Might as well play guys on their right side unless you have an actual reason not to.

I like Ferland to but he has zero finish. Better suited on the 3rd line with Backs and Fro!

You don't hand a spot to a player that may or may not make it past his 8 game audition. That's something the Oilers did for years now and look where it got them.

Duha on 960 says its obvious to him that the Flames think Versteeg is a fit on Gaudreau and Monahan's line. Don't want to break up the Backlund/Frolik chemistry.

Zero finish and poor offensive instincts as well. He'd be a complete anchor to two elite talents like Gaudreau and Monahan.

What an idiot that Duha is, doesn't he know young players can improve?

blah blah blah

Gaudreau - Monahan - Versteeg
D Tkachuk - Bennett - Brouwer
M Ferland - Backlund - Frolik
L Bouma - M Stajan - Hamilton/Chiasson

Wouldn't hurt my feelings to see Stajan in the pressbox either. Go with:

Bouma - Hamilton - Chiasson

...as the 4th line.

Unsure if noted here yet or not but this signing is further proof that Burke doesn't pull the strings. It was my understanding he hated Versteeg.

Didn't the Oilers feel they could trade Yakupov because Versteeg could replace him on RW? Pretty embarrassing to have your rival team scoop him up from under your nose.

Ferland is a young, developing, improving player who showed surprisingly good smarts, passing, puck handling and skating last season despite not putting up many points. Those who watched him closely saw this offensive upside and apparently some people glossed it over. We don't all see the same things when we watch hockey. But there are a few of us on this board who have seen Ferland's offensive upside that he may still realize.

Twould be silly to suggest a very young and inexperienced player won't improve and generate more offense.

Chia counted his chickens before they hatched all right. As of right now they have very limited options, especially if someone goes down.

I think Versteeg is likely to play on the first line as well. That has nothing to do with people's ability to see Ferlands offensive upside or not
