Damn you oilers. I'm traveling in the uk and only put an extra hour on the PVR for this game thinking that would be enough.
What the hell is the nhl thinking allowing a 9pm puck drop. Pretty much ensures the good chunk of eastern viewers will opt out.

If there is one game on the calendar I want to win this year, it's this one.

2 options for you, and you will be able to watch any game. It just depends on how you prefer to watch.
1) NHL Center Ice: Through Comcast (blech), but I believe it is available on a couple of other cable providers. I can't tell you for sure, but if you look it up you can see if it's available in your area. You will get every single game live for any team in the NHL, unless it's being broadcast nationally. Even then, I think you get the games most of the time anyways. This is about $140 or so for the whole season, depending on where you are.
The good news about this option is that there is a free preview for the first two weeks of the season, so you can check it out before buying. Just look for a block of channels together that say NHL Center Ice/MLB Extra Innings.
2) NHL GameCenter: This is through the official NHL site and it's actually a pretty great option. It's streaming, and you can watch it live, or start a game whenever you want later, like you've already recorded it. You can choose home or road feeds if you want. You can do quick replays at the touch of a button. Live stat updates...lots of options. The nice part about this is the app can be downloaded to just about any device you want, including a game system, where you can play it on your TV anyways. It's especially nice because you can skip the ads for the local coverage. Same deal, watch any game you want, UNLESS it's in your local market. Then you have to watch it on the local TV channel. This is about $160, and is a preferable option if you are on the road a lot.
I have yet to see anything out there better than these two options. I don't know anything about satellite TV, so maybe someone else can speak to that. I hope that helps!

100%. 2 words describe this man: 3 commas.
Actually, the more I think about it, the more the comparison to the fictional billionaire Russ Hanneman is apt.

Directv and Dish Network satellite offer Centre Ice at the same price as cable.

Apparently the escalators do not work in the new arena so maybe this hour long ceremony is just to give the fans the opportunity to reach their seat?

I HATE these defense pairings. I'm hoping that by the end of the game that Gio and Brody are playing together. Considering this is an extended preseason game given this team hasn't played together yet and the Flames record of futility in openers the stars are aligning for a pretty disappointing night for Flames fans. I'm hoping Elliot is really sharp tonight because if he's not this one could be a blowout.

Given the late start could they now have started the opening ceremony earlier? 8:45 is pretty ridiculous IMO.

Apparently they're asking everyone to show up for 7:45. So basically they are giving it an hour. Seriously.

The Flames have arrived in Edmonton...and so has HE!!!!!!
His first sight upon returning to Canadian soil is not a pretty one. He thus flies into uncontrolled rage:

Flames vs. Oilers - Game 1 of the 2016-17 NHL season

NHL TV has been a decent option for me in Houston for $140 US. As long as you have a reliable internet connection it's simple to stream through phone, computer, tablet, or PS4. I usually stream it through my computer and connect to the TV via HDMI.
I like that I can choose between broadcasts on NHL TV, something you can't always do on the more expensive cable packages. Blackouts only happen for me twice a year when they play the Stars, which are aired through the local Fox Sports channel.
Hope this helps. GFG!

I have lived in NY for the past 12 years.
I have done both NHL Center Ice and NHL GameCenter.
I would for sure recommend NHL GameCenter
1. You will basically get all Flames games
2. You can watch on any device, anywhere
3. Want to watch on TV? Just ChromeCast it!
Best of both worlds!

I can only speak from watching in Iceland, but NHL Gamecenter has been outstanding, never an issue for me I always stream HD on my TV in the dark hours of the morning, never a glitch.
