While I appreciate the nomination from Enoch Root and the kind words from AC, I don't think it'd be the greatest idea for me to go around starting a ton of threads. I like the idea, and I'd be interested, but I'm trying to post less, not more. I don't think my posting as many as five-six more threads a month would be received well.
Nobody has said GDT's are a bad idea, most if not all here really appreciate them. What people are balking at is the perceived ownership of them. GDT's have been happening as long as I have been on this site and I presume much longer than that. Why now has it become a big deal who starts them? HD stepped up to the plate years ago and people loved him for it. When HD's time became limited Cali stepped up and hit it out of the park. Did someone appoint Cali? If so I don't remember. If Cali's time is pressing someone else will step or multiple people will. But just let it happen naturally. Some will be better than others it's just the way it is. If people start to gravitate to one more than the other so be it, accept it and move on.
If it's thanks you are after write a quality post or come up with an original gif for after the fact. I don't look at a poster's name and thank the post just because of who write it. If it's a quality post it gets a thanks.
This is the first time in along time that this place feels like Jr high. So much looking for validation and when not finding it taking your ball and going home. I wouldn't be surprised if some around here have already written up a post for the season openers and are counting down the seconds to post it.

Before people start slinging words like "childish" or "drama", consider where all of this stems from. CPF's uses of words like "now is the time" and "letting" people start the GDTs. No one has ever "let" you post the GDTs years ago、Cali, so why would you start this now?

Well, it's in my head too, then. It is definitely coming across as 'ownership' when the language "now is the time" and "letting" people start threads is being used in the OP.
Nobody owns the GDT. That's what the so-called negative posters are taking issue with IMO. Someone, who's not the owner, deigning to "let" other posters contribute. Many, many people have thanked CPF for the content he put into the threads last year. Nobody is questioning the effort or quality. People are taking issue with the perceived ownership aspect of what essentially is a free-for-all.
To be fair to Cali, and HD before him, in the same vein as people flipping out on sureloss' behalf, sometimes if Cali or HD were busy and people did the GDT they'd catch so much friggin flack.
Same people flipping out now and being jerks are probably the same ones who won't hesitate to flip out and insult people who dare tread on Cali's territory.

If you asked him I doubt he'd say that he owned the GDT's. He does it in the same vein as what sureloss does - posters here appreciate what they do.

No where in the OP does the word "letting" show up, nor is there anywhere in the post that I find a suggestion that he will now "let" people start the GDT. I read Cali "asking" people to help him write the GDTs, and asking rather earnestly.
I do not read "now's the time" as "now is the time that you will be allowed to start the thread". To me it says that if you have ever considered writing one, now is a time that it would be really helpful to step up.
I'm with you Dion. Sometimes it is good to ask. Or to give someone the benefit of the doubt, especially when they've clearly expended a lot of effort to give us something for nothing in return.

There is mostly one poster who is acting like this and he's created all this drama almost single handedly. Surprised mods haven't stepped in tbh. The problem is that he's so enthusiastic and very likely well intended but the reality is that it brings the overall level of discourse down with his constant validation seeking.

TheScorpion gets better every month. Can't ask for much more than that. Fellow may end up becoming a well respected poster if given the chance and not driven away. Some people are encouraging and guiding him. Some people are just crapping all over him.
The latter is becoming far more annoying and Jr High than Scorpion. So I can't agree with you that he is the worst part of this thread. Of course, now I'm doing what Dion and I just said we should never do by assuming you are even referring to Scorpion.
Anyway, I don't want to be a part of the, so I'll leave it alone from here. Plus I find your opinions usually reasonable so I'll just agree to disagree in advance.

Its pretty simple, I have always been appreciative of any GDT made by Cali and HD. However its no ones right nor will i assume Cali was inferring that. Agreed he was looking to see if anyone wanted to do it as well.
But the fact remains, anyone can start a GDT if they choose to. I did read somewhere that Scorpion may opt to take a day or two to write a GDT and didn't want it ruined by someone who posts a one line GDT before he posts it. That alone is absurd. Look, if someone wants to take that time to write it, great. It is always appreciated. But to be hesitant to do so for the fear someone may post before him with a short write up is making it about them.
Who cares if someone does a GDT with a short write up and posts the thread first. Just post more as a comment within the thread if its that much of an issue. No one is getting paid and this is a public forum. No one has rights or dibs on anything besides the man who started this site.
I mean do you really think a respected poster like Sureloss cares if someone posts news before him? I highly doubt it. No one is above anyone here.

Because he also used the praise "let others try", it's leaning more to the former than the latter
The reason people care about sureloss posting news is 1) he is almost always going to beat you anyway so trying to beat him to it just for the sake of it is pretty pathetic and B) his accuracy rate for substantiated news is significantly higher than most of the dolts who try to get in before him following @b0bm@ckensie and the other variety of trash.out there.
I don't think it has anything to do with it being his thing or his responsibility or his job or some other crap, it's because the guy is just better than any one else at it. If you are going golfing with Mario Andretti, don't rush to drive the golf cart. Missteeks same thing.
As long as someone does the gdt I don't care but it is a weird kind of possessiveness to wear it as a badge.
