Dumbest idea by Craig Button on TSN tonight. Not sure if he is joking or not but he was saying maybe Flames trading Dougie Hamilton to Edmonton for #4. I like Craig Button's scouting but why would the Flames trade Hamilton, one of their top D-man and also very young to their most hated rival to the North?? Doesn't make any sense to me.

Me neither Tkachuk isn't some defensive stalwart in junior and honestly whats his reasonable offensive upside a 60 point winger? The flames are expected to trade a 40-50 point defenseman who has played top pairing in Boston for the hope Tkachuk reaches his upside in 3 years at the earliest? I don't think Treliving would even consider that deal. Plus it is filling a need for our main rival for their surplus assets when our defensive depth is sketchy as is. The whole thing is people just playing connect the dots without considering what the Flames would actually be willing to do. Anything the flames give up would be a quantity for quality deal which most likely won't be accepted. The media is just making #### up since Treliving was hired what was the last thing the media got a jump on even a day before it actually happened?

perhaps it is just Treliving getting in on the Subban rumors. Seeing if Edmonton and Vancouver is willing to pay a hefty price for Subban, what would they give up for one of his defencemen.

Dreger sure sounds convinced Calgary is trying make a big splash.

My thoughts are the Flames realize they have to trade the 6th pick to get the goalie they want so they are looking for ways to stay in the top 10 but get Bishop. Trading Hamilton does not seem like the answer.
It makes absolutely no sense trading your #3 D when the team doesn't even have a real #4. Losing Dougie really hurts our blueline

i do not think Bishop is worth a top 10 pick.
Not when it is a buyer's market on goalies right now.

Like others have said, I think there' s only 3-4 goalies who are worth a top 10 pick. I'll be PISSED if we trade #6 for Bishop... and will stop watching hockey if we trade #6 for MAF.

Tyler @akaRCN
McKenzie just talked about a scenario where CGY moves Hamilton for 4OV, opening up cap space for Ben Bishop & drafting Tkachuk AND Juolevi.

No ####. How many times do you find a big defenseman who can score double digit goals and 40+ points at the ripe old age of 22? Hamilton is gold. You keep that. If Treliving makes that deal I would question his mental faculties and whether he should be running a NHL team. That would be the ultimate example of getting wrapped up in the hype of the draft. I just can't see a cool customer like Treliving doing something that stupid.
Not only that, but how the hell do we get the THREE first round picks required to draft Tkachuk and Juolevi, AND trade for Bishop? We moving Gaudreau, Monahan or Bennett too? Must have been an all-nighter for McKenzie. Doesn't make sense at all.

Yeah I don't get it. How is Gio, Brodie, Juolevi better than Gio, Brodie, Hamilton?
Even if you do get Bishop, your D is significantly worse so is it really worth it?

I like the general idea, but not Hamilton. And especially not to the biggest rival, and sending them a player that fits their biggest need to boot.

I wonder if they're hearing Hamilton's name specifically, or it's just speculation based around Chairelli's statement saying he's deep in talks to get a good defensemen; combined with the fact Calgary wants another pick. I bet they're just reading between the lines, although most seem to think the Oilers are talking about Subban instead

This just seems like Treliving is being active in finding out what is available in the market.
I wouldn't mind trading Hamilton, but only if the return is greater than a 4th overall. Hamilton is a proven commodity and is only going to get better. Hamilton for 4th+nurse/klefbolm? Or 4th+Hall for Hamilton+?
