The Athletic named him #4 best player of all time, and I agree with them.

Wayne, Mario, Orr, Crosby.

Pretty hard to argue.

Whenever I hear someone make comparisons between Sidney Crosby and Connor McDavid, I know that is not a serious person.

Crosby is elite at every single facet of the game. The most complete player to ever lace them up. The responsibility of an elite Swedish C, the determination of a Canadian, the flash of an American, the creativity of a Russian, and the ultimate teammate like a Finn.

Connor McDavid doesn't even take important faceoffs for his team, never mind playing a two-way game or a drop of leadership.

Note: screeching like a banshee at your teammates is not leadership.

He does everything, he is excellent at everything and he just wins. And if you're on his team? He will drag you to those wins kicking and screaming if he has to.

Not only that, he has been the best ambassador for the sport of hockey off of the ice, despite his 'bland' or 'manicured' persona.

Fortunately the position of "Canada's hockey ambassador" has recently been vacated by the weasel holding it. I hope Crosby takes on that mantle in retirement.

Most lethal backhand I've ever seen. Elite at face-offs and he just wins.

And, as you said, he's never involved in scandals or anything. Best Ambassador for hockey you could ask for.

He is literally the 'Total Package.' I know people love their 'Old Timers' but Crosby? He personifies everything good about hockey.

As for 'Whiner Wayne?'

He bitched and whined from his first day to his last day and he's still whining.

Crosby at least grew out of it and learned the benefit of stoic leadership.

Howe-crosby-lemieux could beat any line with greztky on it, I reckon.

An amazing player and it was great to be able to watch his entire career! Hopefully he has another year or so in him.

There was actually some real fears he was going to have to retire when he was having what people thought were concussion issues.

I have Orr ahead of Mario sometimes.

They're all great in their way. And Crosby is #4, ahead of Howe, IMO

I couldn't agree more with above assessment from croflames

I'd like to see a poll because you gotta get jagr in there, howe has to be, rocket Richard, wow, all in many different ways. Lindros and Forsberg could get discussion too, depending on how you quantify

Crosby is good, but I have a hard time removing Gordie Howe from the Mount Rushmore of hockey. It seems like there should be at least one player from between 1917 to 1979.

I have Orr as 1a, he totally transformed the defense position, the other guys were just extremely good at their position.

He's up there for sure and I'm pretty sure Wayne won't ever have a project like THIS named after him.

Crosby is the best 2 way player to ever do it and it's not particularly close

This is the reason I hold Crosby and Orr higher than the rest on my personal list. I understand why that’s uncommon, but it’s a big factor for me.
