Has it been confirmed that Nenshi is the only person tweeting under his account? Most famous people usually have assistance with their tweets, or just get someone else to do it entirely.

I find it very unlikely that Checker Cabs/Ready to Engage found 3400 old white people to sign their petition legitimately.

Yeah, they seem to have pulled off some elaborate hoax or forgery.

Nenshi's allegations of violence and intimidation by Ready to Engage was quashed by the Calgary Police, what makes you think he's right about this petition?

3400 hundred signatures, whether legitimate or not, is not enough to quell plans that will give better commutes to thousands of people PER DAY.

You'd hope. But if there's one thing I've learned about "almost rich" people in Calgary, it's that they are some of the most selfish @$$holes I've ever encountered. Their arguments against this project have as much integrity as a child stamping their feet and shaking their fist over being told they have to clean their room. Its disgusting. We're talking about a bus-lane, not a rehab center.

Based on how this has gone down, I'm close to being in favour of turning the Rockyview hospital into a giant methadone clinic/brothel.

You know what? That is actually brilliant. Create a fake group that wants to start a drug rehab centre beside Rockyview Hospital, and distract the residents with that until the shovels hit the ground on 14 Street.

The best place for it would be the empty land between Glenmore Landing and Heritage Park. You could build a nice sprawling complex there that would be an easy walk along the pathway to the hospital.

1. Homeless people can't afford the Bus

2. They already get cocaine from their parents stash, so they don't need crack.

3. We are building separate lanes so the Mercedes don't have to share the road with a disgusting bus

4. Riff-raff Can't afford the bus, how many times do we need to answer this.

It's easy to be flippant when you don't live in one of the areas that will be affected.

The city needs to answer the questions around the pipelines in the area and any work on those that might br required, they need to answer the questions regarding the impact of people parking in the surrounding neighborhoods and how they will increase enforcement and they need to explain why this went from $40mm to $65mm.

On that last one, even Nenshi wants an answer.

Also, many of the gathered signatures that were on the petition were invalid as they either did not live in Calgary, or were missing items.

The Ready to Engage petition was submitted with 3,390 names, of which 1,225 were removed for missing the legislative requirements.

Mayor Naheed Nenshi said the petition didn’t serve much purpose but caused “time and trouble and money” for the city.

“Normally, a petition like this you would just table at council,” Nenshi said.
“But for some reason, the proponents of this petition wanted it properly certified through the Municipal Government Act process which cost a bunch of time and money.”

Didn't the pipeline issue get solved and explained that it'd be more worthwhile to worry about an asteroid hitting the planet than any problems with the pipelines?

Parking, like people who would park on the street to use the bus? If there aren't permits needed to park on the street there, what would you like them to do? If there are permits needed, why do you need more enforcement than there already is?

Not sure about the cost increases.

You guys are being pretty hard on these people. I heard the guy interviewed on QR this morning, and he's well spoken, with some legit questions. The way the City is handling this is actually pretty poor. The guy brought up a few valid points that the City had no answers for at their Q&A. As if anyone of you guys wouldn't want to know where people are going to park if it was your house that was going to have this heavily used bus stop near. I live near a widely used bus stop and I regularly see people park in front of my house and walk to the bus stop. No big deal because it's not like it's every day, but if it was a BRT station? Would I ever be able to park again?

Y'all need to stop chirping them for having legitimate questions that need to be answered. There are quite a few details that are either not answered, or else pretty outdated, as this project was written in 2011. The guy made a very good point about that as well. Lots has changed in the 5 years since this was proposed. Why is it not being at least looked at again, and how come the communities were not consulted?

I know it's cool to love transit and hate rich white guys, but there's quite a bit more to it here. I'd go find the link to the interview, but something tells me that the internet has already ruled on this, and the verdict is NIMBY. I can't believe that anyone that owns a house doesn't have the time of day to look more closely at this. I can't believe that all of you people actually wouldn't give a crap if the city put a bus stop that would attract hundreds of people from other neighbourhoods right by your house without a plan for where people would park.
