The equivalent, if you made $60,000 annually... would be receiving a $73.17 fine. Inconvenient and maybe a bummer on your weekend... but you'll consider yourself pretty lucky.
I won't consider myself lucky if I do a throat slash in rec hockey and get a 75$ fine!!
Really ... you think he was threatening to kill Gio...? Have you played sports - it's not acceptable but it's a VERY long way from what your implying...
It's not like anything bad ever happened when a hockey player got over excited, not once. No ruined lives of tarnished careers at all.

Threats from Kadri are real. He is a dirty player who will go outside the confines of the rules to enact revenge.
He tried the flying Elbow on Giordano following the Gardiner goal in the 3rd. Giordano ducked out of the way and Kadri went ass over tea kettle, but he threw the elbow all the same.
Kadri is a dirty rat of a player.
Kadri fought David Backes earlier this year and didn't do too badly. He's not the world's toughest guy, but he will fight.
You've also probably heard guys call opposing players fags many times from peewee to the pro ranks. It's a superficial insult just like Kardi's throat slash, but it's something that is no longer acceptable like it once was. Personally, if someone called me a fag while playing sports, it wouldn't bother me in the least, just like the throat slash didn't bug Gio. Gio did mention it was stupid though and it has no place, and he's right.
If the NHL desires to remove these things from the sport, a 1-game suspension is in order. If they don't really care that much, then it's a $5k fine.
Firstly I won't touch on the "fag" argument, not sure what that has to do with this topic.
Secondly, people need to stop being so sensitive. Esposito's throat gesture wasn't received as "stupid" or "has no place" it was perceived as tough, mean, emotional, battling for your country. Hockey is s tough mans sport, I like mean players with an edge, and I ave no issue with making a throat slash gesture. Since when is the world so pathetically sensitive? Toughen up.

Gio clearly states it should not be in the game and calls the gesture stupid.
The "fag" argument has plenty to do with the topic. What used to be acceptable, Esposito's throat slash for instance, or the slur "fag", is no longer acceptable. Despite the fact that you personally may not be offended by it. It's just the nature of society these days.
Dammit, I remembered that this one was Kadri but it wasn't him... I'll post it anyway because it was funny. I misremembered because he was, er, involved.

I certainly would...

The offence of utter death threat may be prosecuted by summary conviction or by indictment. If prosecuted by indictment, the accused person is entitled to elect trial by jury and upon conviction is liable to up to five years jail. In most cases, however, the offence is prosecuted by summary conviction, requiring a trial in the provincial court. In this case, the maximum jail penalty is six months.
Kadri won't play tonight. Officially has a lower body injury.
However as hinted by Friedman, conspiracy theories that the Leafs are quietly applying supplemental punishment
Has there been a situation, I can't think of one, where a team has said:
"You might not have been suspended by the league, but what you did is against out culture so we are "suspending" you for a game or two by sitting you."

I'll just take a moment to have a laugh at the bolded....
Ok. I'm not really implying anything outside of that there are harsher punishments for doing similar things outside of the rink (which is true for a lot of things. Hockey is chalk full of assault if it was done anywhere else).
My overall frustration is at the inconsiistency. This is something that is black and white. It's not up to interpretation of "intent" or "point of contact" or whatever excuses they hide behind for other infractions. I don't really give a fat f*** what the punishment is. Nothing? $2500? $5000? A game? Doesn't matter. Just have a shred of consistency.

Not exactly the same, but the Flames just sat 3 guys. I don't think it is unheard of for teams to "suspend" guys for conduct unbecoming.
Then again, maybe Kadri really did hurt himself throwing the tantrum.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

Yeah I don't see the two as the same.
I was specifically referring to something that was reviewed by the league and no suspension.
I don't really see what the Flames did as the same, other than it is a stand on team culture. With the Flames it was obvious why they were sat with no real "fake" injury (not that I know his injury is fake).
