But the issue is what will be people accept.
If Trudeau (and to be clear I am not a Liberal supporter) comes out and says that the protocols in place are being followed will that suffice?

Of course. How many times has politics trumped common sense? I am surprised you'd even ask. Not that I have a stand one way or the other on this issue.

I would like to know if there is a "cost" undertaking. I poked around the internet but couldn't find a source for you claim. I am also wondering, if it did cost "a billion dollars" what is the estimated monetary contribution to this country by those people(s).

As someone who is a part of the 50k, I estimate I'll pay over a million in taxes during my working life in a white collar middle class job. I don't even make a lot of money compared to the rest of my extended family. My cousins are all professionals. I'm just going to guess that the "boat people" have been net positive contributers to Canada. That's before even counting their kids contributions.
Even if it's not true, at least we have have killer Pho in Calgary more Flames fans.

Thanks, I reckoned that the ROI would be good.

I mean it's possible, but I'm wagering that the potential political capital that could be lost by doing that isn't worth the risk.

Except that's just not true. The "concerns" today are the same as they were a week ago and the same as they were the day Alan Kurdi became a household name and the same as they were the day before that.
I mean if Wall is truly concerned about the Paris attackers then he ought to be calling on travel restriction on those with French and Begium citizenship when you take into account the actual citizenship of the actual attackers.
It's political grandstanding on the part of Wall, pure and simple. If he was truly concerned we wouldn't be talking about this because Wall would have talked with McCallum and/or Trudeau not dumped an open letter out there. He's just pandering to fear.

There's a good place across McLeod trail from the Hooters in the South. I always forget the name. I just call it Pho Hooters.

See... here's the thing. Regardless of the motives of either, one plan swiftly alleviates the suffering of a vulnerable group while the other delays it.
|
You mean the suffering of the vulnerable group of 129 killed and 350-400 wounded in Paris?
These people are not just a number, they are all individually important, having effective security is the right thing to do. The debate should be around how to best to select the refugees, how best to screen the refugees and how much time that will take. Its certainly very shortsighted and political to set an abstract timetable and then violate every security guideline that was previously put in place.
Let me make it clear that the refugees who came in earlier waves were also screened, Hungarian and Czech refugees who came to Canada in 1956 and 1968 were heavily screened(many were rejected) for AVO and SID membership, German nationals were screened for Nazi connections(even those who claimed to be jews) after WW2. This is nothing new, its just a lot more difficult because of the lack of records.

It's not racist to be concerned that the large volume of refugees coming over could have terrorists in their midst that are intent on causing harm to Canadians.
However, this article tells me that Canada has already done it's homework, and therefore I am satisfied that due diligence has been done and I would certainly welcome them over.

Also worth noting that they are letting in a lot of Shia Muslims. While there are some Shias in ISIS it is overwhelmingly Sunni. Maybe that's part of the screening process as well.

Maybe, but it's six weeks out and I feel like we haven't even heard of a plan or protocol yet.
I actually find Brad Wall's letter to be totally reasonable. If anything he's pushing the Liberals to at least address some concerns that millions of canadians have with this process but putting it on the table.
I don't think "Well I'm sure they know what they are doing" has ever been a good position to take when it comes to a government.
Edit: Not to mention that a lot of the resources that these refugees are going to require likely fall within the jurisdiction of the provincial government. How's going to pay for the health care (I.e. bringing their immunizations current) etc... Does the federal government have a plan to transfer cash to the provinces for this? From Wall's perspective he's probably thinking "####, I've got 2,000 refugees coming to my province and no one has really communicated to me what the plan is yet".

Are Syrians as good barbers as the Lebanese? My barber is too busy lately, so perhaps some additional hands will make it less busy. I support this move, habibi.

One can begin to identify another person's intent by analyzing how they approach the relevant subject matter. In the case of Premier Wall, like many posters in this thread he is approaching the topic knowing "how it cannot be done" and neglects to think "how it can be done". Is it that difficult to consider that Trudeau knows the government will be burdened and included adding the necessary resources into potential action plans?
As Premier wall asked Trudeau to suspend his plan before asking Trudeau if his plans includes a strategy to handle the increased burden on the system, I find it clear that he is using recent incidents to play on the fear of Canadians.

A "recent incident" (photograph of a kid on the beach) is the reason we're talking about this in the first place. Why wouldn't this recent event spark a few questions?
I really don't see why we can't figure out how we're going to do something before we promise to do it. I'd love to see "how it can be done" but logic would suggest a plan first.

Two of my most senior fabricators were refugees that came over from the Vietnam war. They've been with my company for over 25 years each. Maybe some of the Syrians can weld and I'll be lucky enough to find someone who actually shows up to work every day and is greatful for the work.

You can't blame people for starting to be frustrated with the way this is going though. All they want is answers to very basic questions that the government should have known before they even opened their mouth on the number of people being allowed and the timeline. Not knowing the cost of this plan, who is going to pay for it, how it will be implemented and how they will keep those who represent a risk out are all things they should have been ready to answer on day one.
People have been asking about the plans for all of this, but all they get is told to trust them and that a plan is coming out soon, all while the days keep ticking away. Trudeau would gain a lot if he simply said he is listening to the concerns of Canadians and is extending the timeline. Global had a poll that showed only about 4% of respondents supported sticking to the plan to bring in 25k by the end of 2015.
