Gaudreau was absolutely unreal tonight. Best player on the ice for either team by a mile.
He just looks so much more confident out there.
I really don't think it's a stretch to say he has Art Ross potential. The way he thinks and controls the game is at such an elite level and for him to look like that in and after just one full season... the sky is the limit. He's such a special player.
A close look at his seeing-eye OT winner and rubbing it in to Canuck fans in the first row:
That top line looks like it's picking up where it left off just prior to the playoffs. Unbelievable chemistry.
Only 2 points back of the division leading Coyotes!
Goes to show you still can't read too much into the first two games of the season.
Smith won't save that team on his own. Just as LA won't continue to get stomped. Just as the Ducks will slingshot past everyone eventually. The only thing you can probably take much stock from is the Oilers still stinking it up even with their new shiny toys.
However I think we saw glimpses later in this game of where this team is heading. It was dominance in the third and the Flames even in their resurgent season last year wouldn't typically dominate any team. They came in waves tonight when they started playing determined, just like watching the Blues or Kings when they're on. You could see the seeds of what they'll become in due time. It's extra cool when you see your future #1 (IMO) putting up a wall in his first pro game too. Canucks fans probably got their eyes opened tonight to the Flames potential whether they'll admit it or not.

Agreed that the Flames had a decent third but we have to take it in context. It was against the Canucks and while the Flames did get blown out by them in the first game, the Canucks just aren't a very good team

Really all canucks goalies look unhealthy certainly to different varying degrees due to the fact that it is Thee goalie graveyard of the NHL.
They way Edmonton has been goingfor the past decade they may steal that title. They are half way there. How longhas it been since Vancouver held that title of golie graveyard? Outside Kirk mclean and Luongo who really had good careers with the Canucks. It was not Cloutier for sure. They had some good young goalies that they just passed up recently and in the past. Why does that organization insist on goalies in the dusk Autumn of their careers?

[QUOTE=ScorchyScorch;5453800]If Raymond plays 75% as good as tonight on a regular basis, he can go ahead and have his roster spot.
But only if.
I think him actually being put on waivers AND clearing them might have been the wake up he needed. Just like Wideman being sat out last year this could light a fire under his ass. It's do or die for him right now. In the immortal words of Yoda“Do. Or do not. There is no try.”
I think Brodie will be the perfect 3 on 3 D line mate for Gaudreau when he returns.
OT is lots of fun now though I have to say. 4 on 4 half the time was just both teams playing it safe until shootout. 3 on 3 had me an inch away from my screen. It's a game of possession and mistakes and every one is costly.

I suspect it will take the coaches about a week to work out the wrinkles and then we can look forward to six defencemen cycling the puck until it's time for the shootout
lol, the hate for Gaudreau is strong among Canuck fans:
NSFW!
I ???? hate this little goblin so much
Hit that little ****
Ugh not the midget
Beat it. Ya oompaloompa. Little turd.
I can't wait for virtanen to absolutely crush that little weasel. I don't know why so many players give him so much room. Run him over
Exactly. He's so small... most 14yr old are bigger than him. Not sure why he hasn't been leveled yet. Hoping it happens soon. He won't be the same player.
not sure why no one hits johnny canuck hes a midget not sure why he doesnt get cranked hockey has fully been sissified
He should be scared to step on the ice. I find it ridiculous that no one has really hit him yet. There are opportunities. Even if it puts you out of position it would be worth it to nail gaudreau, one of their stars
Not that I want him in coma (as tempermental as I am I wouldn't wish that on anyone). But yea, people are capable of inflicting some damage on the dwarf
Not saying they're avoiding him but they aren't trying to. Johnny can be neutralized by being targeted because of his size.

I love when people think no one is trying to hit him. They are, Gaudreau is just smart and fast and able to get out of the way. Guys who go out of their way to try hit him end up being embarrassed.
