Theoretically, if convicted it could affect his ability to cross the border. I have a friend that had a DUI and he has been turned back before. It seems like hit and miss.

Drunk driving and hit and run? Good thing he can buy the finest lawyer money can buy.
Extremely glad he isn't on the flames

He might be able to escape conviction on DUI with medical expert evidence but he messed up - leaving the scene seems pretty inescapable.
If convicted I imagine they will work on a border waiver right away.

Reminds me of the Mark Bell incident. He was never a sound NHLer again. His career IMMEDIATELY nose-dived.

So I assume the Sabres will void his contract? Probably not...

I find it ironic that he crashed into a donut shop co-founded by a hockey player who killed himself driving drunk.

Like weren't the top NHL forwards making like $6.5 - $7mil back then?

Definately a 1b... I think he gets way too underrated here. Really consistant 20 goal, 50 point guy that was one of the best defensively. He was like ROR a decade ago.

Agreed. Had 8 or 9 straight seasons with 50 or more points. Was definitely a solid player.

A cool million should be enough to have this guy as the driver.

Just plain stupidity. If you are out drinking you can get one of those driving services to pick up you and your vehicle. Probably for a few hundred they'd be happy to have a car drive you around from bar to bar and take care of your vehicle. Hell, they will take your vehicle home for you and then you could call a limo to drive you around for a couple hundred more.

They went pretty hard on Jon Jones. I'm glad flames management focuses on character as much as they do. Puts the golf chew / mint thing into perspective

Based on a $7.5M cap hit, a 40% tax rate and 20 mins/game of ice time, Ryan O'Reilly makes enough every two seconds to cover a $90 cab fare.

If a struggling me (and I mean struggling, right now) can manage to splurge on driver take home for around $100-120 if I'm out in Sylvan Lake, Red Deer or wherever and end up unexpectedly having a few drinks.. It's really hard to empathize with the guy at all. Yeah, it sucks because if I do end up out with friends and NEED to he home/have my vehicle the next day, i have to not only cab but pay around double for vehicle take home .. But man. Haven't we all lost someone to drunk driving?
