In what way does Weber's cap hit change if he's traded? ...

Another way to look at it. If Hall hit free agency this summer, would anyone give him 5 years at 6 million/yr? How about 5 years @ 6million plus a good prospect or roster player? There's no way.

Ummm yes Hall would easily get that on the open market, let's not let hatred of the Oilers cause us to lose all objectivity. I mean c'mon Hall was over a point per game two of the last three years. This year only three of the top ten scorers were over a PPG. As much as some Flames fans hate to admit it, Hall is a premiere LW in this league. Hall, RNH and Eberle are all valuable players even with their contacts. Let's not be silly.

Nicholson is just interviewing him anyways. Maybe he is asking for Chiarelli's advice on what to do with KLowe and McT Seriously though there are a lot of choose for Chiarelli so I don't think he'll settle with the Oilers as long as McT is still there. Toronto, San Jose, maybe Pittsburgh.

Maybe....but also realize he is playing for the 'Coil, a team with supremely bad coaching. He has zero regard for any defensive responsibilities. He is only about getting his points....doesn't give a rat's ass about his own end. A giveaway machine. Thus his offensive stats have been artificially inflated. The 'Coil: Always given, never earned.

Would you trade Giordano and Russell for those two Oilers?

No, but we're bitter provincial rivals and there are a myriad of non-hockey reasons to not do that trade.
In a vacuum, Gio and Raymond for Eberle and Nugent Hopkins is intriguing.
Nashville shouldn't do it from a hockey perspective - Edmonton should.

I think the complete lack of coaching and guidance Taylor Hall has received to this point in his career is a testament to how good he actually is. He's been led by fools his entire adult life, and he's still borderline top 5 at his position.
If management ever allows that team to be properly coached, who knows what they might be able to accomplish.

The only way that Nashville trades Weber, especially after paying the majority of that contract is a package like Nurse, Hall + the Pitts first.
In other words they would want a godzilla level overpayment.

His lazy backchecking is not a symptom of bad coaching, his zero hustle in his own end is not a symptom of bad coaches.
He's very good offensively, but he comes across as a guy who thrives offensively in Edmonton because he doesn't care about any other aspects of the game.
It would be interesting to see what his offense looks like if he actually has to come back and pick somebody up.

Yes, it is. You think the guys on our team would hustle and back check like they do if they didn't have Bob coaching them? Probably not.

Most of the players on the Flames forward lines were fundamentally strong two way players. The Flames also tended to target players with strong character and determination and desire to win.
So yeah, even with a different coach they'd at least have some defensive drive.
You can blame Eakins for a lot, but Hall was a terrible two way player before Eakins arrived on the scene.

The thing is Hall has never been asked to play two way hockey, and that's fine. There also has been zero veteran leadership with any credibility to make him do it on that team. At this point he is 5 years into his NHL career being allowed to play the way he does. He's been pretty successful at scoring goals doing it too. I mean is he seriously going to listen to guys like Boyd Gordon, Mark Hendricks, and Andrew Ference about how he should play? "I'm Taylor fataing Hall top draft pick top line forward, and who the fata are you again? That attitude has been allowed to grow.
These are now brutal habits for any coach or GM to break. This is why getting Iginla, Tanguay and the like the hell out of Calgary before Monahan and Gaudreau hit the scene was so important. The veteran guys they kept are willing to play this way. So now we have Jiri Hudler, maybe not a big name guy, but he's played in Detroit. Giordano the captain working his arse off and willing to play this way and set an example. Even Wideman scratched in game 2 this year, and responds the way he did. The young guys fall in line and have the right habits from the get go. Something that never occurred in Edmonton.
Honestly the Oilers could build a decent team if they were to move out Hall and or Eberle for help on defence. They need to break the bad habits. But they also need good veteran players who buy what the coach is saying for when McDavid, Nurse, Drasaitl show up. Right now they only one of their core guys who remotely gets it is Nugent Hopkins.

Sounds like he has been hired:
Jason Gregor @JasonGregor
Sounds like #Oilers to have a press conference as early as tomorrow to announce Chiarelli. Can't confirm title at this point. #Oilers #NHL

Yup. Brings instant credibility. MacT and Lowe ruined things so badly, yet all it took was a couple painted ping pong balls and Edmonton legitimately becomes a better destination. Kinda silly (and annoying for rival fans), but true.

It is time. Its funny watching them sink, but watching a battle of Alberta that actually has some meat to it will be great again. I remember crushing beers with pals that are oilers fans and everyone constantly yelling at the TV and at each other. Games weren't long enough. Need to see them play each other in the playoffs again before I die, so it's best they get on it now.

in Columbus when they hired Davidson, he let Howson run as the GM for a few months until Howson began to talk trade for their very high 1st round pick.
As a result, he was quickly turfed and Kilkoleinen was brought in.
In Calgary, Brian Burke let Feaster continue to operate as General Manager while he conducted his organizational review, until of course Feaster started to look at making trades of some of Calgary's valuable assets. He was quickly turfed and Burke took over as Interim GM.
Do the oilers learn their lesson and replace MacT and Lowe immediately, or do they wait until MacT/Lowe bungle another significant move for the oilers (such as sign someone to a big money deal etc)?
I hope they let MacT sign some guys and make some trades before showing him the door.
Maybe a late 1st and a couple of warm bodies for some of their star players?
