Congrats NHL. Your best young player in 10 years is going to the worst organization in professional sports.

I'm sure this has already been mentioned but I am rattled at the moment... No team should be allowed to draft first overall four times in six years. That's seriously a disgrace. Absolute horse****. I seriously hate the Oilers more than the Canucks at this point. Well OK, about the same...
I lived in Edmonton for three and a half years... I can just imagine the party going on on Whyte Ave right now.
What a joke!

I hate McDavid already.
Who's the Neil Sheehy of this draft? Let's get him.

Crap, I forgot this was even happening today and just found out the bad news.
Hard to say how this will go. Crosby pretty much had instant success in Pittsburgh. If McDavid is in the category, then they might not have the opportunity to ruin him.
But as others have probably mentioned, there is a lot more involved in winning than having one franchise player. I also don't believe the whole "generational talent" thing is as big of a deal these days as it used to be. There is far less separating those types from the next tier than there was 10 or 20 years ago. For example, Crosby while arguably being the best player in the past 8 years or so, isn't as head and shoulders above his peers as players like Gretzky, Lemieux or even Jagr were in their primes. I really don't think we will see that type of one-sided domination again in this league.
And if he is as disappointed as he looked, he will be gone by the age of 25 anyway.

Darren Haynes @DarrenWHaynes 13s13 seconds ago I don't care how good McDavid is, if you told me in 2006 that to get him, I'd have to miss the playoffs the next nine seasons, no thank you.

The happiest man in Edmonton right now should be Jordan Eberle. This all but assures that he'll be traded for a defenceman.

Never ever again can any Corsi loaded Oil fan huff and puff and look at our team and say we lucked our way to a playoff spot. Ever.
Their franchise is so bad they have had to luck themselves into what looks like a solution to their woes.

Kevin Lowe knows winning. Six SC rings.
I guess that means two more lotteries left to win.

If the Oilers really believe that they have a lot of pieces in place already for future success the should seriously consider trading McDavid. They could easily get two or three top players (a d-man and a goalie.)
Based on the recent past I just can't believe that McDavid is going to be the saviour of the Oilers.

That's because he won't be around to make any decisions. If Katz doesn't punt MacT and Lowe by June, he moves down a notch, into the ranks with Wirtz and Ballard, as worst owner in NHL history.

I thought failure was the springboard to success? MacT has so many axioms, I'm so confused.
